God of Then and Now

Hebrews 1:1, “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets.”

God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.  He cannot and will not change.  He stays consistent.  God works in the same ways today as He did in the times of Adam, Moses, Noah and Abraham.  He comes to people, talks to people, and works with people.  God is the God of then and the God of now.

God.  God is so complex in nature that it is impossible to completely understand Him.  There are three parts to God.  There is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  Each is equal and yet different.  All work together as one.  All are God.  Jesus, as the Son of God, became man and yet stayed God.  The Holy Spirit comes and dwells in man and stays all God.  God the Father, creator of the world, is all God.  Each part works together as One God in three parts.

Various times.  From the times of Adam and the Garden of Eden to now, God has been there.  He created the world, maintains the world, and loves His creation.  God chooses the times that He is active and talking to people and chooses the times when He is silent.  Throughout the history of Israel, when they were listening to God, He was talking to them.  When they stopped following God, He would discipline them and would be quiet until the time that He deemed ready to once again talk to them.

Various ways.  God has so many ways that He works.  Sometimes it involves punishment, sometimes it involves counseling.  God’s ways are not ours so we are not to question them.  God has a plan because God knows all of time from the beginning to when it all ends.  We only have a narrow scope of time so we are not educated enough to make all decisions.  We need to trust God in all things because of the various ways that God works.

Spoke in time past.  God was very active in several people’s lives in the Bible.  One such individual was Moses.  God came to him in a burning bush, on a mountain and throughout a desert.  God was always talking to Moses to ensure that His people were saved and taken to the promised land that God had chosen.  People think that God has stopped talking like this but that is simply not true.  God may not appear in a burning bush to you but that does not mean that He does not talk to you.  God speaks all the time if we are willing to stop and listen.

Fathers by the prophets.  Many times God used prophets to talk to people.  Prophets like Hosea, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Nathan and many others.  Each came, giving the message that God had laid in their heart.  Today, God talks to us directly but can also talk through other people to us.  The method is still clear.  Sometimes we get a chance to see the future and sometimes we do not.  Sometimes God only gives us what we need to know for the day.  Regardless of how God talks or by whom, He stays consistent.

God is always there for us.  He will never leave.  He walks with us.  He talks with us.  He loves us.  Let us take the time to listen to God and let Him bless us with all that He has in store for us.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You that You love us.  We appreciate that You are there for us.  We appreciate that You talk to us.  We would be lost without You.  Help us to trust You in our lives.  I pray that we all learn to know You better and quiet our lives so that we can listen to Your will and plans.  You clearly know more than us and we need to listen and learn always.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
