2 Corinthians 12:10, “Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
Relationships are like a metal chain. The links in the chain are like the people in our lives. Some links are stronger than others. Some links are even removed, making the chain shorter. Even if our entire chain is weak, if we have Jesus, we are strong. We are strong in weak.
I take pleasure in infirmities. This seems like it is backwards, but according to Paul (and Jesus), this makes perfect sense. In order to ensure our freedom, Jesus became sinful. He took on our infirmities so that we can have peace. Since Jesus did this, we should also have pleasure in infirmities.
In reproaches. We are bound to make people disapprove of us but most of all, we make God disapprove of us through our sin. We can take pleasure in these also, since Jesus came to Earth and took away all our sins. When people who do not follow God disagree with us, we can take heart knowing that we are following God and what He says. Being reproached is not bad unless we are going against God.
In needs. We all have needs. The need to eat. The need to sleep. The need to drink water. When we have needs, this can be frustrating to us. We do not like to be in need. This, too, needs to be something that we take pleasure in. When we have needs, we have a God that is ready to fulfill our needs.
In persecutions. If we are being treated poorly for what we believe, we should not compromise it. We need to stand strong in our faith and beliefs, even if they are not popular. We need to stand strong for God in all that we say and do.
In distresses. When we are going through pain or anxiety, it is hard to put a smile on our face. Jesus wants us to do this though. We need to be happy through the pain. Smile through the sorrow. Excited through the anxiety. Distress needs to be approached outside of the normal.
For Christ’s sake. Through all of the above listed events, we need to endure them in the name of Jesus. Jesus endured this and more for us. He did this all out of love. We should also endure all of this when dealing with people in our lives.
When I am weak. We are all weak sometimes. Even at our strongest times, we are still weak compared to God. We are weak more times than we can count. We can rest assured in our weakness though.
I am strong. We are all strong because God is strong. He makes us whole in all the areas that we are weak. We can accomplish so much and yet it is not perfect as God is perfect. We can have strength in weakness.
Thank You for Your love. Help us when we need help. Being strong when we are weak. You are our God now and forever. We can accomplish so much more with You in it. Help us to lean on You for all that we need.
In Your name we pray,
