Be who God Needs You to Be

1 Corinthians 9:19-23, “For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ that I might win those who are without law; to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.  Now this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I may be partaker of it with you.”

God wants us to be who He intended us to be.  He did not make us all the same for a reason.  He gave us unique emotions, qualities and attributes.  He gave us all gifts that we should use for His glory.  He made us so unique and wonderful.  We need to be who God needs us to be.

When witnessing to the world, we need to remember to go to the world and be ready to follow God.  Paul gave us a great example in this passage.  Paul’s ministry took him to faraway places and talking to many different cultures.  He dealt with many issues in his life.  In all of it, he did what God wanted him to do so that more and more souls could be won to God.

To the slave, we need to be a slave, even though we are free.  We need to look at where the slave’s mindset is at.  When we are a slave to something, it controls us.  It holds us down.  It impairs our ability to rationalize anything else.  We do not seek anything else when we are comfortable where we are.  We must put ourselves into that life so that can win them to Christ.  In this life, the only thing to be a slave to is God.  We are to give all of our lives to God so that He can perfect in us all that He has for us.

To those of another nationality, we need to learn that nation.  There is homework to be done when talking to those of another nation.  People from different nations grow up learning different things.  In order to share Christ, we need to make sure that we are not judging because someone may not know what we know.

To those of another culture, we need to learn that culture.  Each culture has its own worldview.  This worldview can cloud the vision of God.  This worldview can completely ignore God.  This worldview can embrace other entities outside of God.  In any case, we need to learn the culture to witness properly to that person or people.  Other cultures may also have words that would not be used due to another meaning.  We need to show care to learn what is necessary to spread Christ effectively.

To those that are not understanding us, we need to be understood.  The message of Christ is simple but to those that try to overthink it, it can be so confusing.  Jesus came to Earth to live, minister, die and come back to life.  He came to save us from sin and death.  He came to die so that we may live.  When we speak to others, we need to speak as we are speaking to a child.  Not talking down to but using terms that are not deeply theological or philosophical.  The salvation message should be clear and concise.  It does not need to be fancy.  In the end, we need to give the message of God the way we are meant to.  Not trying to be something we are not.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for making us how we are.  We are made so wonderfully because You know us so well.  Help us to use our gifts to win people to You.  We need to be who we are so that You get all the glory.  You are so deserving of all that we are.  Help us to learn from You in the Bible and use that knowledge to pass on to others.

In Your name we pray,
