Hebrews 12:7, “ If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?”
As parents, we have a large job to do. The correction of children. The guiding relationship between a parent and the child to teach what has been learned. When parents speak, children should listen. Earthly parents are not always correct but there is One that is always correct. God the Father is there to correct us and He cannot sin so He is always right. We need the correction from the Father.
Correction is never easy. As an adult, to know that you have done something wrong can be infuriating. Think about this from a child’s perspective. They are trying to learn, not fully developed yet and not capable of decisions like an adult. They will handle correction poorly, often resulting in temper tantrums or other means of acting out. Even adults handle correction poorly.
Since everyone is created by God, we are all sons and daughters of Him. God loves all of us and part of that love is correction. We all sin and sin puts us apart from God. God wants us to learn from our sin and not sin anymore. We will sin again but we need to learn to not repeat the same sins over and over again. We must be willing to accept correction in order to grow closer to God.
Every person at one point in their life or another needs correction. Children get correction from parents. Adults get correction from bosses. Bosses have other bosses. People who commit crimes get correction from law enforcement. Everywhere there is correction. Most importantly, we get correction from God whether we like it or not. God knows best as He is the only perfect being. He has a plan and His plan requires correction for us. Acceptance of correction from the Father above.
Thank You for Your correction. We know it is not fun. We know it is not easy. We also know that it is necessary. Help us to be more open to it. Help us to love that You care so much for us. Thank You for sending Your Son to die on the cross for our sins that we may be perfect in Your eyes. Not to avoid correction but so that we may have access to Heaven to be with You forever.
In Your name we love and pray,
