Psalms 98:1-3, “Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory. The Lord has made known His salvation; His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the nations. He has remembered His mercy and His faithfulness to the house of Israel; All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.”
For many, there are two lives: the old life and the new life. The old life, the one lived prior to conversion and the new life, the one lived after conversion. Many saw 2017 as a passing from the old life to the new life. With that means going from an old song about sin and life without Jesus to a new song, joy in knowing that Jesus is Lord and Savior of all. We have much to sing to the Lord about.
We are to sing to the Lord a new song. Prior to being saved, we sing an old song. Our song involves tales of sin and other worldly woes. After salvation, though, we have a new song to sing. This song is one of joy and grace. Without Jesus, we live a life that is aimless and without hope. With Jesus, we are given direction and sustenance. Our tune changes when the music sheet we sing from goes from the world to “out of this world.”
It is easy to acknowledge that God has done marvelous things. God did, after all, create the whole world in six days. He performed several miracles and even sent His Son to Earth to perform the greatest miracle of all: the salvation from sin for all people. God is everywhere at all times. He is available to everyone at all times. He doesn’t sleep. That, in itself, is marvelous and miraculous when we apply it to human existence.
At God the Father’s right hand is Jesus and Jesus is also part of the Holy Trinity of God. Along with the Father and Spirit, Jesus completes the three “arms” of the Holy Deity that is God. The victory that is talked about is the victory over sin and death and Hell. Jesus, when He died on the cross, conquered all those things. He did not stay dead though. He rose from the dead to show that sin, death and Hell have no dominion over the Triune Godhead. Because we invite God into our hearts, we can claim this victory as well.
Salvation is a gift. God could have said no to Jesus coming to Earth to save us. God could have judged us based on our sin and would have been right in doing so. Thankfully, we do not have to live in sin any longer. We can be saved from sin if we will only call on the name of Jesus and ask Him to forgive us for all that we have done. After salvation, we need to continue to seek Jesus and live according to the rules of God shown to us in the Bible.
God, through the years, has shown His dominion and power. He showed it over and over again the Bible and even to this day, God shows His power over nations. Things that we, as humans, contribute to luck and coincidence are God at work in the lives of all is us. There is no luck. There is no coincidence. There is God who is in control of the world, just as He was at the very beginning.
Two qualities of God are His mercy and His faithfulness. His mercy is shown in that He loves us enough to save us even though we first turned our backs on Him. His faithfulness is shown in that He never gives up on us. No matter how many times we mess up, God is there to help us out. If we sin, God is there to forgive. God’s mercy and faithfulness are attributes that make Him the awesome God that He is.
God’s love is shown in all parts of the world. His salvation, through the work of many believers, has went to all parts of the world. There are Christians all over the world. Yet, there are so many more people who need the salvation of God. They are looking for answers in all the wrong places. Allah is not the answer. Buddha is not the answer. Confucius is not the answer. Jesus is the answer. He is the only answer to what we are searching for. Salvation comes from Jesus alone.
Our God and Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You give us a new song. We are so lost when we try to do things on our own. Thank You for being there for us, especially when we don’t realize we need You. You are our salvation and our song. There is no one like You. We are not deserving of Your mercy and faithfulness, yet You give it to us all the more. Thank You for all that You are in spite of who we are. You love us and for that, we can be at peace, knowing that our souls are eternally protected for Heaven above.
It is in Your great and powerful name that we can stand and pray,
