The Birth of the Savior (Part 6 of 7)

Matthew 1:18-25, “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.”

Verse 23: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

The virgin shall be with child.  Mary was a virgin.  She had never been with a man in order to make a baby.  Mary was given the honor of having a baby.  That baby was more special than any other baby ever in the history of the world.

Bear a Son.  Mary was having a Son.  The Holy Son of God.  God entrusted the human birth of His Son to a young couple who was not even married yet.  Mary was chosen as she was pure and pure in heart.  She was given a task that no one else has had since.

They shall call His name.  Joseph and Mary were enlightened to what name their baby would have.  He was already named by God as He was alive prior to this human birth.  The human birth was of great importance.  This was to be the start of the human ministry of God.

Immanuel.  This is one of the names of Jesus.  Jesus was known by many names, but I find this one is extra special.  Jesus is the Savior of the world, which means He connects with every person in the world.  He truly loves everyone and that is why he came to Earth.

Which is translated.  As with many names and foreign words, there is a translation.  Many people when they see a word, they need to look it up.  They need help with learn a new term.  With Immanuel, there is a translation given.

God with us.  That translation is God with us.  Jesus is with us in our hearts and souls.  God is always with us and never leaves us.  No matter where we go, God is there.  When we get scared, we can take heart knowing that God is with us through that time.  He is always there, in the good times as well.  We can always count on God.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Jesus being “God with us.”  We need You in our lives at al times.  We try so hard to do things our way but it always ends in failure.  We need to learn to trust in You and rely on You wholly.  You help us in ways that we cannot even begin to understand.  Help us to love you more and more each day.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
