Revelation 1:8, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
God is so great. He will never let us down or go back on His word. He is always there. He loves all of us. God was there at the start and will be there at the finish. This is God’s nature.
I am the Alpha. Alpha is the first letter in the Greek alphabet, symbolized by the letter α. In being alpha, God is showing that He is the first. He existed prior to anything else existing. God created everything. He created everything out of nothing, which is something that no one can do except for God. Everything that is created by all but God comes from something that God already created.
And the Omega. Omega is the last letter in the Greek alphabet, symbolized by the letter Ω. This shows that God is last. Everything will die and pass away. The Earth will go away and even the heavens will go away but God will remain. We will remain if we are saved by God. God cannot die so He will survive everything that happens and will be with us through the end times, whenever they occur.
The Beginning. God was there in the beginning at the formation of the Sun, Moon, and stars. The Earth and the Heavens. God was not created by anything. Before light, there was only darkness and God was in the darkness. God is bigger than time so concepts like beginning are far exceeded by God and His power.
And the End. God will be there in the end times and beyond that. Well after the end of Earth, God will be there. He will never stop existing because He is eternal. He will be there forever because He will never be destroyed or fall apart. He is the incorruptible God. King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Says the Lord. God can say the things He says about Himself because He possesses authority. He has the dominion over all things. There is none that can stand up against God and win. What He says is truth and He never will or can lie. He is the same God as He was in the time of creation and He will continue to be the same God well into the future.
Who is. In the present, God is still God. He is no different. He cannot change. It is that consistency that means that we can trust God to do what He says He will do. He will with us always, even in this present age. God does not leave us or sit on some faraway hilltop. He is active in the lives of each and every person alive.
Who was. God is the same God that He was for Adam and Eve, Abraham, Moses, David and countless others. Being timeless means that God is always there and being God of all makes Him the same. Previous events did not change God because God cannot change.
Who is to come. In the future, God will continue to be the same. He, unlike us, will not change His nature. He will not change just because of who He is around. He will not become someone else to impress a person. God, for however long everything will exist, will not change.
The Almighty. Almighty comes from the Greek word παντοκράτωρ pantokrátōr, pan-tok-rat’-ore; the all-ruling, i.e. God (as absolute and universal sovereign):—Omnipotent. Just like the previous examples, God is unchangeable, timeless, and powerful. He is Almighty as only God can be Almighty. There is none that is omnipotent like God. There is none as sovereign as God. He is absolute and dependable to the end. Start to finish, God is the One to be with and pledge your love for.
You are the beginning, end, alpha, omega, and all-powerful. We never have to doubt You because You are reliable. You are our best friend, Father, Savior and caregiver. You love us even when we do not love ourselves. you came for us even when we rejected You. You choose us over all other creation. Thank You for caring the way that You do for us. We owe everything to You and can never repay our debts.
In Your name we pray,
