God, Our Savior

Isaiah 43:2-3, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.  When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.  For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place.”

Savior comes from the Hebrew word יָשַׁע yâshaʻ, yaw-shah’; a primitive root; properly, to be open, wide or free, i.e. (by implication) to be safe; causatively, to free or succor: at all, avenging, defend, deliver(-er), help, preserve, rescue, be safe, bring (having) salvation, save(-iour), get victory.  So many throw this word around without much regard to the true nature of the word.  God is our Savior.  The One and True Savior.

When you pass through the waters.  The world is filled with so much water.  Water can be fun for swimming and essential for drinking.  Water can also be dangerous.  People, without proper training, can drown in water.  Water can destroy property.  Water can erode places.  We will have to pass through waters whether physically or spiritual.  Spiritual waters may be some addiction that is conflicting with following God fully.  it may be something like financial issues, marital problems, or simply strained relationships with friends.  Whatever the struggle, you will pass through it.  This means that you will not stay in that state forever.  There is hop on the other side of the water.

I will be with you.  God assures us that through all the struggles of life, He will be there.  He is always there for us.  This is because God is all places, all the time.  Even 6.7 billion people is not too much for our God.  He created us and He wants to care for us, if we will only call on Him for help.

And through the rivers.  Like waters (oceans, lakes and other large bodies of water), rivers can be equally dangerous.  The current of a river can carry someone away.  Rivers sometimes have rapids that are extreme levels of current.  These waters can be certain events that happen like car accidents, stubbing a toe, and other events that happen and end quickly.  The pain may last a while but the event is sudden.

They shall not overflow you.  God assures us that we will not be overcome by the river’s flow.  We must learn to trust in God in all things.  Everything that happens, it happens for a reason.  Bad things happen but they serve as lessons for us to learn from.  God wants us to know that He is bigger than the rivers and other bodies of water.  God is always there through it all.

When you walk through the fire.  Fire can be so destructive.  Once a blaze is started, it can hard to stop.  Forest fires, for example, can be very scary, especially for people who live need large groups of trees.  We walk through spiritual fires every day.  Times with anger and lying, for example, can be very destructive.  They can create more and more problems that get out of control in a hurry.

You shall not be burned.  God will get us through fires without being burned.  If you have ever tried to be near fire for a long time, it gets too hot to be near.  Fire can catch clothing on fire and if hot enough, it can burn skin and hair.  Fire can be so harmful.  Spiritual fires can pop up at any time and we need to be ready to quench them.

Nor shall the flame scorch you.  The fires will not scorch us when we have God as our defender.  God is the ultimate firefighter.  He has the solution to every problem that we have because He is larger than everything.  God is there for us to help us against all evil that sparks up and tries to burn us down.

For I am the Lord your God.  God is the God of the world.  Every person is created by God and for God.  It does not matter what we do or whom we serve, we are still God’s.  He loves us regardless of ourselves.  He cares about us more than we can ever care about ourselves.  God is Lord.  He has dominion over us and those that accept His Son, they can truly call Him the Lord of their lives.  Letting go and giving a life to God is the best thing that anyone can do.

The Holy One of Israel.  God is the God of Israel but He is also the God of all.  He is holy.  He is the One and only God.  No other god can compare to God.  God is truly perfect.  He is holy and perfect.  God is so great and there is none like Him in all the land.

Your Savior.  God is our Savior.   He sent His Son, which He did not have to, to die on the cross for our sins.  He made a Way for us to be with Him after we die.  He truly saves, defends, and delivers us if we call upon His name.

I gave Egypt for your ransom.  God gives us what we need, just like when God helped out the Israelites during the time of Moses.  There was a time for slavery and then a time to be released and taken to the promised land.  God knows His people and gives what is needed and even some things that we want.  It is all based on the will of God.  God has a plan and despite what we think, our will does not outweigh His.

Ethiopia and Seba in your place.  These places were in Northern Africa, meaning that God blesses us far more than we deserve.  We may pray for comfort and God gives us comfort and peace.  God knows us so when we ask, He already knows.  We should never be scared to talk to the Savior of the world.  He is there to listen to us.  We limit God by not believing in Him enough.  Let us Him and let His blessings flow to us from Heaven above.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being our Savior.  We cannot save ourselves and this word should be kept holy as its meaning should be reserved for You and You alone.  You love us so much and we love You too.  You are our Father and want what is best for us always.  Thank You for all that You are.

In Your name we pray,
