2 Peter 3:8, “But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”
Time is so relative. It is relative in that people say “one moment” which can vary in amount of time. “One minute” can mean something to one person and something completely different to another. Even years can feel different based on what happens. This is just how people view. To God, a thousand years, does not feel like that to us.
Do not forget this one thing. This is a friendly reminder that Peter is giving us. With everything to remember and know, this is one more thing to have in the back of our mind. We need to remember this as it is critical to the nature of God. There is so much complexity to God.
With the Lord. God has a way of putting things into perspective. Things like time are different for people and God. God has always been around. God cannot die. The Earth has been around for thousands of years and God was around before it and will be around after it.
One day is as a thousand years. God does not fit in the construct of time as man does. In a 24 hour day, there is a time to be awake and a time to be asleep. God does not sleep. He is eternal. One day to us is 24 hours. To God, 24 hours is the snap of a finger. The blink of an eye. A drop in the bucket. Even a thousand years is nothing to God.
A Thousand years as one day. You could take all of our known history and it is but a moment in the eyes of God. We have no idea how long God existed prior to the creation of the world or universe. We have no idea of anything time related with God because God has to simplify things for us into a time-based relation. We have days, months and years so that we can track time. To God, He does not need to track time. He will be around forever, well after the Earth is gone.
Thank You for being eternal. We know that You do not sleep. We can talk to You whenever we need to. You are always there. We need You. You have a plan for us and for this world. Help us to be open to this plan and to listen to You always.
In Your name we pray,
