Romans 6:22, “But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.”
Sin is bondage. It traps someone. Though it seems right at the time, it is all wrong all of the time. Sin is so black, so vile. We have a path away from sin. We have a path from sin to eternal life. That path is Jesus Christ.
Now having been set free from sin. Sin is bondage but we can be set free. When accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we can be free from sin. Jesus died and conquered sin. He conquered death. He conquered Hell. Jesus has the power to control sin in our lives if we let Him. We have to let Jesus have our entire life so that we can have eternal life.
Having become slaves of God. We have a choice of whom we can be slaves to. We can be slaves to sin or slaves to God. When we are a slave to sin, we are controlled. When we are a slave to God, we are set free from bondage. Slavery to God is not like a typical slavery. We are set free to praise God. We are set free to worship God. God wants our hearts and minds and does not want to share with anything else. When we become a slave to God, we tell everything else that they are not our gods. We are declaring that we only have one God and His name is above all other names. He is declared as our Lord. Slavery to sin bogs us down and pushes us to the ground. God is there to pick us up when we are down and almost out.
You have your fruit to holiness. When we become a slave to God, we receive holiness. It is not of our own but it is only of God. God’s holiness can be our holiness if we ask for it. We can have the fruit of holiness when we invite Jesus into our heart. When we have Jesus push sin out of our hearts, we are left with a pure heart. Clean. Holy as God is holy. Not based on anything we do, but God alone.
And the end, everlasting life. When we accept Jesus, we are given everlasting life. We are able to spend eternity with God in Heaven after we die. We are given this gift, not of anything that we do on our own, but because God loves us. He cares for us. We are His creation and as such, should be thankful for all that we receive from God. Thankful for everlasting life even though our life is sinful. Jesus is not and that is all the difference.
Thank You for what You do for us regarding sin. You give us everlasting life. You gave us Jesus, Your Son and perfect sacrifice for our imperfect lives. We need You so much. Help us to avoid sin but if we sin, we know that You are there for us. We love You so much and seek to follow You. Help us to be a slave to You as Your burden is light and easy to carry.
In Your name we pray,
