Tithes in the Storehouse

Malachi 3:10, “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.”

While going to a Chonda Pierce event, I was inspired by God and her to write these words.

Tithes are so much to the furthering of the kingdom of God.  Tithe comes from the מַעֲשֵׂר maʻăsêr, mah-as-ayr’; or מַעֲשַׂר maʻăsar; and (in plural) feminine מַעַשְׂרָה maʻasrâh; a tenth; especially a tithe:—tenth (part), tithe(-ing).  This does not in way mean that a tithe has to be money.  God does not want our money; He wants our hearts, minds and souls.  He wants us to bring all tithes in the storehouse.

Bring all the tithes.  The tithes all need to be brought.  Not just some, not just a few.  All.  When we give money, it can be a tenth but more importantly, it must be a number that is agreed on between you and God.  More importantly than money is time.  Time given to the kingdom is more important than money.  Money is necessary to run the church but without volunteers willing to give time, activities like ministry grind to a halt.  Tithing can be money, time, food, or anything that is agreed on with God.

Into the storehouse.  The storehouse is simply the church.  God wants to bring in all that we are into the church.  If we have a gift, we need to give it to the church.  Part of our money needs to go to the church to make sure that people receive pay and activities are funded.  We need to make sure that our tithes make it all into the storehouse.

That there may be food.  Part of tithing can be food for those that can’t afford it.  During hard times, people need help and food is a major need.  There are other needs that people have other than food.  Those needs can and should be met by the church.  The church needs to do more for the community than what it is doing now.  We need to help those who cannot help themselves.  We all go through hard times.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have a place to go where people would actually help?  The church can!

In my house.  God’s house is the church but on a larger scale, God’s house is the world.  God wants us to show His love and His love is loving enemies, people who want the worst for us.  We need to help out those who like us, dislike us, and are ambivalent to us.  We need to help out all.  Our gifts are a tithe and that tithe should be to help out others.  This is a way to bring people to Christ and Christ is the path to Heaven with God the Father.  We witness to all and God convicts those people and saves those that want to be saved.

And try me now in this.  God wants us to look to Him for the answers.  If we are told something by a person, we are to challenge it against what God says.  We have to make sure that we do not just take things at face value.  We must consult the Bible daily to know what it contains.  We must read it daily to knows its words.  We must make sure that we have only the facts and leave the opinions at the door.  Tithing is not only about money and that is in the Bible in many parts.  Cain and Abel had to tithe.  Israelites needed to tithe, not just of money, but food and their time.

If I will not open for you  God does so much to open and close doors for us.  When we get that job we always wanted, we need to make sure to give back to God.  When we get find out something was paid for us, we should make sure to give back.  We have to make sure that God receives all the honor and glory.  God blesses us because He loves us.  Because of that love, we should bless others.

The windows of heaven.  Heaven is such an amazing place that our minds cannot comprehend it.  When thinking of Heaven, we think of gold everywhere and mansions and many lavish things.  The “windows” of Heaven are simply a means for God to be with us.  God is supremely powerful so He does not need an excuse to be there or a means to get to us.  He is always with us.  This is a concept put in place so that we can try to grasp the concept of how God works.

And pour out for you such blessing.  From the windows of Heaven, blessings will pour out.  It will pour out on those that give.  I cannot tell you how much more I have been blessed since I learned to trust God and give to Him what He rightly deserves.  God wants to bless us.  It is us that stop this from happening.  We restrict the blessings from God by not being wiling to give of ourselves.  We try to hoard what we have and when we do, God sees that and withholds something far more: salvation and eternal life.  Our tithing here on Earth can impact our salvation.  We need to give of ourselves in some way.

That there will not be room enough.  God can bless us with so much that we will not be able to store it.  It is able to overflow out of us and be given to others.  The more that we give to others, the more blessed we are.  Not necessarily with physical wealth in Heaven.  When we help those in need, we are helping one of God’s children.  When we minister to others, we are ministering to one of God’s children.  When we give food to the hungry, we are giving to God’s children.  We need to give and then we will receive many blessings in Heaven and honestly, that is what is most important: our standing with God.

To receive it.  When receiving, we will try to take in what is given.  The problem is, with God, He can send more than we can ever know what to do with.  He can bless us infinite times over if He desires.  The key is to take those blessings, give blessings to others and then reap more blessings.  If this concept was enacted more in the world, we could end epidemics like hunger, water shortage, and diseases that are preventable.  All it takes is someone uses their blessings to bless someone else.  It can start a chain reaction that reaches the whole world.  How awesome is that and how awesome is our God!  Jehovah Jireh.  The Lord will provide.
