Proverbs 16:2, “All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the spirits.”
We, as humans, are very intelligent beings. We can talk, walk, and accomplish great feats of strength and intellect. We can conduct brilliant experiments, assemble large buildings, and memorize large amounts of data. Our ways, for what they are worth, are decent. There is one whose ways are far better than decent. That is God. God’s ways are greater than the ways of man.
Man, for all he can accomplish, is sinful. He is imperfect. He is fallen. He cannot complete tasks with perfection every single time. He is not God. Yet, we seem to think that we are smarter than we really are. We think we can out-reason God. We think our ways are better than God’s.
The Lord does not just see our outward ways. The Lord can see inside. He knows what we are feeling. What we are thinking. What we truly desire. Our ways do not always align with God. God sees the whole picture and we can only see a small portion. Our ways can point where God’s do.
One way to align with God’s ways is to pray. Pray for God to reveal His will to you. God will allow us to know what we need to know when we need to know it. I know in my life that God has open many doors for me to walk through. He has also closed many doors that I thought should have stayed open. God has a way and thankfully His way is greater than our ways.
Another way is reading the Bible. The Bible contains all the words of God and how we are to live. If we want a glimpse of God’s ways, we need to absorb what is contained in the text of His Word. God’s laws and commandments are there in black and white. How to pray, how to live, how to act is all there. We need to read the Bible every day. We need to work with God every day. Talk to God every day. When we take a break from reading or praying or talking, we make a way in for the evil one, the devil.
The devil is out there to try to subvert our relationship with God. If we give him an in, he will take it. He will try to convince us that our ways are okay. Our ways are fine. If we even consider that our ways match up to God’s, we fail. We need to make sure that our will does not contradict God’s. God’s will is over all.
Your ways are so much greater than our ways. We need You so much and need help against the evil of the devil. Help us to keep our eyes on You. You alone are worthy of our attention. You alone are worthy to be praised. Help us also to pray more and read the Bible more. Eliminate the interruptions that plague our days. We look to You for guidance in all things.
In Your name we pray,
