The Sinfulness of Man: A Nine Part Study

Romans 3:10-18, “As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one.” “Their throat is an open tomb; With their tongues they have practiced deceit”; “The poison of asps is under their lips”; “Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.” “Their feet are swift to shed blood; Destruction and misery are in their ways; And the way of peace they have not known.” “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

Verse 11: There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God.

There is none who understands.  Understanding comes from the Greek word συνίημι syníēmi, soon-ee’-ay-mee; and ἵημι híēmi (to send); to put together, i.e. (mentally) to comprehend; by implication, to act piously:—consider, understand, be wise.  Wisdom and understanding come from God.  The fact is, we do not have the wisdom and understanding of God.  We have finite minds.  We have limited understanding.  We can never know the ways of God or all of His plans.

There is none who seeks after God.  No one comes out of the womb seeking God.  We have to learn to seek God.  We have to be called.  God is perfect and we are not.  We need God every day and we need to seek Him every day.  We need to put aside our ways and truly follow God 100 percent.

Heavenly Father,

We do not always understand.  We do not always seek You.  Help us to understand what You want us to.  Help us to seek You in all that we do.  You alone are wise.  You alone are true.  You alone are God above all other gods.  Thank You for loving me even when I do not seek You.  Thank You for all that You are.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
