Romans 3:10-18, “As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one.” “Their throat is an open tomb; With their tongues they have practiced deceit”; “The poison of asps is under their lips”; “Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.” “Their feet are swift to shed blood; Destruction and misery are in their ways; And the way of peace they have not known.” “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
Verse 10: As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one;
As it is written. This is referring to the fact that this passage if referenced in three separate portions of the Bible: Psalms 14:1-3, Psalms 53:1-3, and Ecclesiastes 7:20. This means that this is not just New Testament knowledge but also Old Testament. Many passages in the New Testament are referenced back as this is to show that the Bible is all connected. The Old Testament or the law portions are connected to the New Testament or the Christ timeline.
There is none righteous. No person, living or dead, has ever been righteous. To be righteous, let us look to the Greek word δίκαιος díkaios. This word means to be innocent, faultless, guiltless, and approved by God alone. No one can say that they are innocent. Everyone sins. Everyone does wrong in their heart, mind or body. No one can go a day without sin. We are a fallen people. God knows this and that is why He sent Jesus to save us all.
No, not one. In case it is missed in the first part, it is repeated to be clear. No one can stand and say that they have not sinned. No one can say that they should be allowed into Heaven without help. Everyone needs God to save them from their sin. No one is perfect, not even close. This is why the world has a Savior. His name is Jesus Christ. He was a man. He was perfect. The only perfect man in recorded history. He lived and died so that we may die and live. We do not have to be perfect as Jesus is perfect and stands in place for us with God. Thankfully, the sinfulness of man is covered by the perfect blood of Jesus.
Thank You that we do not have to be perfect. Thank You that we still have hope, despite our fallen statuses. We do not have a chance to be in Heaven without Your intervention. You alone are righteous. You alone are innocent. Guiltless. Without fault. You, in Your perfection, made a way for us to be perfect. Not of ourselves but by You and You alone. We cannot claim any credit. The credit belongs to You. Help us to accept Your gift daily and repent of any wrongdoings that we have done.
In Your name we pray,
