Matthew 24:36-44, “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
Jesus’ return. It is the single most anticipated event to occur. And yet, little is known about it. All we know is what we have read and this passage gives all the information we have. It is also all we need. There is no need for more information. We know all we need to know. Jesus will come and it will be quick.
No one knows when Jesus is coming, even Jesus. God the Father is the only who knows the day and hour of Jesus’ return. No person, angel or even the Son of God knows. I feel this is on purpose. No one to blab about it. When something is known, it is planned for. People would wait until the last-minute to get ready for Jesus to come. This is not what God wants. This much is true.
Jesus’s coming is going to be like the days of Noah. Noah lived in a time where people lived for themselves. Only Noah and his family followed God. This is why Noah had to build an ark: to save him, his family, and animals. No one knew when the flood waters were coming, even Noah. Noah waited on God to tell him when to get in the ark to save what needed to be saved. In a matter of no time at all, the flood waters killed everything on Earth. That is how Jesus will be. Here and gone again, with those whom He carries away with Him.
Not everyone is going with Jesus. When Jesus returns, there will be some that go and some that stay behind. It will seem random to those on the outside, but it is far from random. God has chosen who will go and who will stay. Not all that are saved will go. There will be some left to minister to those left behind.
No one knows when He is coming. If someone plans to rob a place, they would not tell the owner when they would arrive. The owner would be ready and have the police there to arrest the robber. This is how it will be with Jesus. He will come but few will be prepared. Few will be ready to go.
This is why it is so important to be prepared. Prepared for Jesus to come back and take you away. Don’t wait until it is too late. Don’t wait until you think that Jesus will come. He could come at any minute, hour or day. Be prepared. Like lightning, He could be here and gone. It will be just like that.
Thank You for sending Your Son the first time. As we prepare for His second arrival, let us be prepared for it. Help us to trust that You are in control and know when it will happen. We know that all we need is faith in You. You care for us and want what is best for us. I pray that we all come to know You more. We need You and long to be with You in Heaven. We know that this will happen sooner than later and help us to be ever hopeful for that time.
In Your name we pray,
