Proverbs 10:26, “As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the lazy man to those who send him.”
Vinegar to the teeth, smoke in the eyes. Not exactly pleasant thoughts. Vinegar, though useful for cleaning and other reasons, tastes bitter. Smoke, though good for cooking and other reasons, is hard on the eyes. So is a lazy man.
The lazy man is not useful to anyone. At work, if a man is lazy, it affects work performance of the group. At home, a lazy man does not keep up the home and it begins to fall apart. In the church, a lazy man brings detriment to the whole group. A lazy man has no place in the kingdom of God.
Vinegar to the teeth. That bitter taste is enough to send you over the edge. Though it can be drank, it is not pleasant. Dealing with a lazy person is not pleasant either. They leave a bitterness wherever they go. Laziness is a lifestyle that is developed. It comes from a lack of motivation or purpose. It goes against what God teaches.
Smoke in the eyes is not good. It makes the eyes close or tear up and is generally harmful. So is the lazy man. Laziness is harmful to a business, home or church. It is contagious and if not careful, can spread and take down whole homes, businesses and churches. This is the cause of the downfall of many a man.
What is the cure? Hard work. Laziness can be squashed. Hard work is what is needed to avoid being lazy. In order to get eternal life, there is a hard work that is required. No one can coast into Heaven. Works will not save a man but in order to stay right with God, hard work to avoid sin and evil.
There is a laziness and there is hard work. Choose hard work and avoid laziness. Hard work is also contagious. If others see that you work hard, they will want to work hard as well. Jesus worked hard while He was on this Earth. Jesus also worked hard while in Heaven. Jesus made sure that salvation is available for all those who want to work to ask for forgiveness and admit wrong. Then one must give us this life in favor of another life. One that is eternal. Avoid laziness in this life and receive rest in the next. It is all about that. It is all about Jesus.
I pray that we all avoid laziness. We should show an example of hard work to all those that see us. Nothing worth getting is gotten without hard work. You alone give us the gift of eternal life if we are willing to give up on this life and ready our lives for the next life. This requires hard work. Help us work hard for You always.
In Your name we pray,
