Titus 2:1-10, “But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things — that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you. Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.”

Titus 2:6-8, “ Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.”

The fourth day.  Today is a talk about young men.  This study will show how young men are to conduct themselves in the Church and in the world.  We will get started right not.

Young men are to be sober.  Just like older men and older women, young men are to be sober.  Too much alcohol for anyone affects judgement and this is the reasoning behind limiting drinking.

Showing to be a pattern of good works in all things.  Pattern: τύπος týpos, too’-pos; a die (as struck), i.e. (by implication) a stamp or scar; by analogy, a shape, i.e. a statue, (figuratively) style or resemblance; specially, a sampler (“type”), i.e. a model (for imitation) or instance (for warning):—en-(ex-)ample, fashion, figure, form, manner, pattern, print.  This means that in everything done, young men should show no change from good works.  This is a striving for perfection.  The example for all to see.

Integrity in doctrine: ἀδιαφθορία adiaphthoría, ad-ee-af-thor-ee’-ah; incorruptibleness, i.e. (figuratively) purity (of doctrine):—uncorruptness.  This is to refer to being pure in the Word of God.  There are no lies in the Bible and as young men, there is a responsibility to keep the Word pure.

Reverence.  Honesty like older men and older women.  Honesty is a desired trait to be had by all.  God is always honest.  He cannot lie and desires that the Church does not lie either.  To deal in truth is to follow God.  Anything less than truth is a lie.  Lies come from Satan himself.

Sound speech that cannot be condemned.  ἀκατάγνωστος akatágnōstos, ak-at-ag’-noce-tos; unblamable:—that cannot be condemned.  Young men are to watch they say as do the older men.  What one says can be held against them if it is wrong.  Grounding oneself in the Bible, the correct words will come forth and make one without blame.  Young men need to avoid mouthing off at the slightest whim due to inexperience and speak as though having the voice of God.

Make opponents ashamed.  Young men, if speaking correctly, will shame those who come against them.  The best way to win people over is with love and not hate.  Truth and not lies.  Compassion over ridicule.  Not everyone is going to like you all the time.  The fact is, if the truth of God is in you, then God is in you and that is what matters most.

Nothing evil to say.  Young men need to stand strong in talking about and believing in God.  God will silence those that speak against Him.  They will not have anything to say.  For most, when evil is spoken, it is due to an insecurity within or a hurt within.  When love is shown, it is hard to show unkindness.  As young men, people look to them as inexperienced and incapable.  This is far from the truth.  Young men have the energy to show the love of God just as older men and women.

Young men have a lot of responsibility.  As young men, they are learning to become fathers and husbands.  They are learning to become heads of households.  This is why it is so important for young men to listen to others who have come before them and follow that.  It is also equally important to listen to God.  God provides all the guidance required to be a father, husband, and man of God.  Young men, stay strong in God today.

Heavenly Father,

I pray today for all the young men out there.  I pray that they listen to You for guidance on how to live.  Whatever struggles they may have, I ask that You listen to them and help them.  Guide them.  You alone are all-powerful.  You are the great teacher of all.  Young men have so much to learn and I pray that they turn to Your Word for that learning.  The Bible is so rich in goodness.  Help all of us, young or old, man or woman, to be more like You always.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
