Malachi 1:6-14, “’A son honors his father, And a servant his master.  If then I am the Father, Where is My honor?  And if I am a Master, Where is My reverence?  Says the Lord of hosts To you priests who despise My name.  Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised Your name?’  ‘You offer defiled food on My altar’, But say, ‘In what way have we defiled You?’  By saying, ‘The table of the Lord is contemptible.’  And when you offer the blind as a sacrifice, Is it not evil?  And when you offer the lame and sick, Is it not evil?  Offer it then to your governor!  Would he be pleased with you?  Would he accept you favorably?’  Says the Lord of hosts.  ‘But now entreat God’s favor, That He may be gracious to us.  While this is being done by your hands, Will He accept you favorably?’  Says the Lord of hosts.  ‘Who is there even among you who would shut the doors, So that you would not kindle fire on My altar in vain?  I have no pleasure in you,’ Says the Lord of hosts, ‘Nor will I accept an offering from your hands.  For from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great among the Gentiles; In every place incense shall be offered to My name, And a pure offering; For My name shall be great among the nations,’ Says the Lord of hosts.  ‘But you profane it, In that you say, ‘The table of the Lord is defiled; And its fruit, its food, is contemptible.’’  You also say, ‘Oh, what a weariness!’  And you sneer at it,’ Says the Lord of hosts.  ‘And you bring the stolen, the lame, and the sick; Thus you bring an offering!  Should I accept this from your hand?’  Says the Lord.  ‘But cursed be the deceiver Who has in his flock a male, And takes a vow,  But sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished—For I am a great King,’ Says the Lord of hosts, ‘And My name is to be feared among the nations.'”

Malachi 1:13, “‘You also say, ‘Oh, what a weariness!’  And you sneer at it,’ Says the Lord of hosts.  ‘And you bring the stolen, the lame, and the sick; Thus you bring an offering!  Should I accept this from your hand?’ Says the Lord.”

Day 8 of 9.  A continuation of what not to give God.  So many want to complain about giving to God what is God’s.  This is how the priests acted and this is the lesson for us today.  We must be happy in our giving and not be wearied by it.

“Oh, what a weariness.”  How can it be weariness to give to God what He deserves?  How can it be weariness to praise and honor the creator of the universe?  We owe so much to God for all that He has done for us.  He sent Jesus to Earth to save us from our sin.  That, in and of itself, is enough.  God did not stop there though.  He continues to bless us and keep us.  He is always at work to make a way for us to follow.

For so many, it is a drudgery to serve Jesus.  Giving Him more than 1 hour a week is too much.  Getting through church is a competition to see who can get out early so that we can go to the restaurant or home to the big game on television.  What is so wrong that we want to run out of the house of God to go home or out of church?  We seem to want to give God as little as possible and expect everything from God.  It does not work that way, I am afraid.  It simply doesn’t

The stolen, the lame, and the sick are brought to God as an offering.  Again, when giving to God, we do not give improper gifts.  We do not give 10 cents if God asks us for a dollar.  We do not give 10 minutes if God instructs us to give a whole day.  God lays on the hearts of all what he wants from them.  God does not need your money or your time as it is all His.  What He wants is to see how freely you will give His time and His money back to Him.  Our sacrifices to God need to truly be sacrifices, not the trimmings off of our wealth.  Give out of faith, not out of what we want to give.

Ultimately, we should ask, “Is this acceptable to God?”  Our tithes should be acceptable to God.  Our time should be given as acceptable to God.  Our gifts should be used as acceptable to God.  God deserves so much from us for all that He did.  He gives us life and takes care of our basic needs.  When we give to God, make sure it is worthy of all that God is.  Make it acceptable to God.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You that You are our provider.  You are everything to us.  Let us honor You by giving back to You.  Even as we give to others, we give to You.  Let us give more of our time and money because that is your time and money.  Let us bring acceptable gifts to You and I pray that we do not ever think that serving You or others is beneath us or a menial task.  We should have joy in serving You and praising You in the house of Yours.  You deserve all that we are every day.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
