Malachi 1:6-14, “’A son honors his father, And a servant his master.  If then I am the Father, Where is My honor?  And if I am a Master, Where is My reverence?  Says the Lord of hosts To you priests who despise My name.  Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised Your name?’  ‘You offer defiled food on My altar’, But say, ‘In what way have we defiled You?’  By saying, ‘The table of the Lord is contemptible.’  And when you offer the blind as a sacrifice, Is it not evil?  And when you offer the lame and sick, Is it not evil?  Offer it then to your governor!  Would he be pleased with you?  Would he accept you favorably?’  Says the Lord of hosts.  ‘But now entreat God’s favor, That He may be gracious to us.  While this is being done by your hands, Will He accept you favorably?’  Says the Lord of hosts.  ‘Who is there even among you who would shut the doors, So that you would not kindle fire on My altar in vain?  I have no pleasure in you,’ Says the Lord of hosts, ‘Nor will I accept an offering from your hands.  For from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great among the Gentiles; In every place incense shall be offered to My name, And a pure offering; For My name shall be great among the nations,’ Says the Lord of hosts.  ‘But you profane it, In that you say, ‘The table of the Lord is defiled; And its fruit, its food, is contemptible.’’  You also say, ‘Oh, what a weariness!’  And you sneer at it,’ Says the Lord of hosts.  ‘And you bring the stolen, the lame, and the sick; Thus you bring an offering!  Should I accept this from your hand?’  Says the Lord.  ‘But cursed be the deceiver Who has in his flock a male, And takes a vow,  But sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished—For I am a great King,’ Says the Lord of hosts, ‘And My name is to be feared among the nations.'”

Malachi 1:9, “‘But now entreat God’s favor, That He may be gracious to us.  While this is being done by your hands, Will He accept you favorably?’ Says the Lord of hosts.”

Today is the fourth day of this study.  After all the effects what doing wrong to God are done, there is a positive note established.  Finding God’s favor.  Doing what is right in the eyes of God.  This is the next part of the series and it starts now.

We are to entreat God’s favor.  This word entreat is synonymous with begging, praying, asking and requesting.  We are to ask and pray for favor from God.  God does not have to give us favor.  God does not have to give us anything.  Based on our lives and the sin we commit, God owes us nothing.  Yet, God give us the chance of favor.  He gives us salvation.  It is up to us to make the choice to ask for this favor from God.  It must be prayed for.  We must request it.  God, though He can read your mind, wants us to ask for everything from Him.

He may be gracious to us.  God wants to be gracious to us.  Like a grandmother who wants to spoil her grandchildren, God wants to spoil us.  He wants to meet our needs and our wants.  This allows requires asking, praying, requesting and sometimes begging.  God will not always answer us right away.  Your prayers will be answered in God’s will and timing, not yours.  It is not Your will be done; it is His will be done.  God has a plan and makes sure that we receive what we need when we need it and how we need it.  It is part of God being our Father in Heaven.

With the all the evil that is mentioned previously…  How is God to bless us if we do not follow Him?  How is God to give us what we need if we fail to give Him the honor and the reverence He deserves?  He won’t if we don’t.  If we give God less than our best, He will not bless us with more.  If we act in evil, God will not reward.  He will judge us and chastise us.  He will correct our ways and get us guided back to the right path.  The choice is still ours to go to the right path and continue down it.  We must choose to flee evil and come to God.  Only then will God truly shower us more blessings than we can handle.

God will NOT reward evil with good.  Time after time, king after king in Israel, it is recorded how they acted.  King after king would choose to follow other gods than the True God.  Time after time, God would punish those men for their actions.  God did not find what they did to be favorable.  He did not reward them with blessings but rather war, defeat, death, and problems.  The same goes for us.  If we do not follow God fully, how are we to have God look favorably on us?

We cannot follow God part way.  We cannot follow God when we feel like it.  We must follow God fully and wholeheartedly.  This is hard; no one said it would be easy.  The reward for a life lived for God, though, is worth it all.  It is worth more than giving in to the world.  It is worth more than family, friends, or others.  It is worth your life given to God.  It was worth Jesus giving His life to save us so it is more than worth us giving our life back to God.  Seek favor and blessings from God today.  Seek God first.

Heavenly Father,

I thank You for Your favor and generosity.  You could easily withhold blessing from us but You do not.  You meet our needs daily.  We get the sleep we need.  We have food to eat.  We have water to drink.  We have shelter.  We have thousands more blessings just like these from You, Lord.  Help us to always seek Your favor.  Help us stay on the straight and narrow.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
