Little Children, Come to Jesus

Matthew 19:13-15, “Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them.  But Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.’  And He laid His hands on them and departed from there.”

Little children.  Innocent and young.  These are whom Jesus wanted to have come to Him.  People typically dismiss children as not intelligent or unimportant.  This is not how it should be.  The little children should come to Jesus.

The disciples saw the children in this passage as a bother.  A pain in the neck.  Too little to be cared about by someone as important as Jesus.  This could not be further from the truth.  Jesus set the disciples straight by telling them that the little children should come to Him.  They should not be shooed away as unimportant.  In fact, the little children are part of the kingdom of Heaven.

In a way, we are all children.  Children of God.  Sons and daughters of the Most High God.  Those who come to Jesus will be ushered into Heaven.  Those who stay away will be cast into eternal darkness, far away from God.  So many people try to redirect others away from God.  They make false claims about God.  They spin a little truth about God into a lie, making the whole thing a lie.  This all creates a confusion for people coming to Christ.

Little children can also refer to young Christians.  Those who are just starting out in their faith in Jesus.  As they are learning about Jesus, we as more mature Christians need to be careful what to say and do in front of young, impressionable Christians.  Though we may be doing nothing wrong, what is perceived by others who don’t understand could push someone away from Christ.

No one should feel like they cannot come to Christ.  All should and are invited to be with Jesus in Heaven.  The choice is ours.  Ours to make and make alone.  No one should stop you from coming to Jesus.  Jesus is available, day and night.  Jesus is there to lay hands on you.  Jesus is there to talk or listen.

We should all come to Jesus as little children.  Jesus is there to talk to us and will never feel like we are worthless or unnecessary.  We should also be that example to others.  No one is unworthy of time.  No one is unworthy of the Creator of the universe.  Come to God.  Find rest in the Savior.  Come to Jesus today!

Heavenly Father,

Thank You that we can come to You.  You are not far away.  You always have time for us and are never too busy.  Help us to be an example to others that we can be approachable if someone needs Godly advice or counsel.  You made a way for us to follow.  Help us to follow that way to You to eternity in Heaven forever.  You are such an awesome God.  We all our lives to You.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
