Light does not Belong Hidden

Luke 11:33, “No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light.”

Light.  Opposite of darkness.  Most living things require light in order to survive.  Many living things need light to see.  Without light, many organisms would die.  This is why light should not be hidden.  This is why the Light of the World should not be hidden either.  Do not hide the Light.

Before electricity and light bulbs and flashlights, there were such things as oil lamps.  These would be lit and as long as there was oil in the lamp.  Oil would not have been cheap and would have needed to be conserved to only when the light was needed.  The lamp would have been moved from room to room based on where everyone was.  This was not a commodity that would have wasted.

So when a lamp was lit, it would have been understood not to cover the lamp.  It would not have benefited anyone to light a lamp and block out the light that it provides.  This would have been wasteful.  This would not have made sense to do.  It also would not make sense to cover the lamp with a basket.  For one, a basket is flammable so that would be dangerous.  For another, this would have completely diffused the purpose of the lamp: its light.

The lamp would have been placed on a stand.  Similar to how lights are hung or put on the ceiling to have the light shine to all the corners of the room, the lamp would have been put on a stand to provide maximum effectiveness.  If guests were to come over, the light would have been needed for the homeowners as well as the guests.  Without the light, there is darkness.  Little can be accomplished in the darkness.

The light is a symbolism to the Light: Jesus.  Jesus is known as the Light of the World.  He shines for all the world to see.  His glory is brighter than the sun.  His presence, while on Earth, was felt everywhere.  Now in Heave, Jesus still shines bright.  He pierces the darkness and makes it run and hide.  In our lives, we have darkness.  Before Jesus comes in, darkness dictates the rules.  It is only when Jesus is invited in that darkness is shoved out and light is invited in.  Darkness is crippling.  It causes grief where the light causes joy.

Light and darkness is similar to the picture of good and evil.  In stories, there is good and there is bad.  The spiritual world is the same as the physical world.  God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, and the angels are in battle against Satan and his beasts and demons.  The battle is over human souls.  Determining where someone goes after death.  Light or darkness.  Heaven or Hell.  Go to the Light or remain in the darkness.  The choice is there.

God would have us choose the light.  Choose Him.  Choose to shine for Him.  When we are filled with the Light, we can’t help but shine.  Shine for Jesus.  Let the light shine so bright that all the world sees.  See the beauty of God and come to Him today.  Do not hide your light.  Shine for others to see the glory of God Most High.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the Light.  The Light named Jesus, who came to this dark world and shone.  We ask for forgiveness for trying to shut out the light by nailing Him to the cross.  We thank You that Your plan is bigger than us.  That Jesus could not be shut out.  Thank You for salvation that shines so bright.  Let us be an example for You in speech and in action.  We can shine and show Your Light.  We ask that You always come in to us and help us to be as bright as we can be.  We should reflect Your love always.

In Your name we pray,
