God’s Lovingkindness

Psalms 36: 7, 10, “How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!  Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.  Oh, continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You, And Your righteousness to the upright in heart.”

Lovingkindness.  It comes from the Hebrew word חֶסֶד cheçed, kheh’-sed; kindness; by implication (towards God) piety; rarely (by opposition) reproof, or (subjectively) beauty:—favour, good deed(-liness, -ness), kindly, (loving-) kindness, merciful (kindness), mercy, pity, reproach, wicked thing.  Lovingkindness describes God to the fullest.  Full of love and kindness to His creation.

David recognized the love that God had shown him in his life.  David had lived a life of war, peace, love, and lots of sin.  David understood that he needed the lovingkindness of God.  This would have been precious to him as much as it should be precious to us.  God does not have to choose to be loving to us.  After all, we decided to leave God and sin, not the other way around.  God never changed.  We changed and have the need to come back to Him for His love and His kindness.

When we come back to God, we must put our trust fully in God.  When we do that, God will protect us like a bird protects their young under their wings.  God will fight for us if we let HIm.  It is when we try to venture out on our own that we find failure.  We cannot fight all the battles we need to.  We cannot save ourselves.  We need God.  We need to trust in God.  The alternative to trusting in God is far worse than can be imagined.  Eternal separation is only part of what happens.  There is so much more.

As David asked, we should ask for God to continue to show us His lovingkindness and mercy daily.  I do not feel that we can ask God enough or thank God enough.  What He has done for us far outweighs what we can offer back to God.  Thanks is the least that we can do for God.  God gave up His Son to save us and for that, we owe God a debt that cannot be paid.

We also need God’s righteousness.  Only God is righteous and pure.  Only God is sinless.  Salvation does not and cannot happen apart from God.  There must be an admittance to sin, a belief in God and a confession from sin.  Only then can we enter into God’s court.  Enter into the kingdom that God lives in.  Righteousness is offered to those that truly believe in God and accept His Son.  We can partake in what God is and what He has done.  We are still not righteous on our own but we can be righteous due to God.

For all that we have done, there is hope.  Our hope is God.  His mercy, lovingkindness and strength are all we need.  There is no greater support that we can be offered.  There is no greater love that can be given.  There is nothing else in the world that compares to God.  David recognized this and so should we.  Follow God.  Accept His lovingkindness.  He sent His Son after all.  The least we should do is thank God and the most we should do is give God all that we are.  It is still like filthy rags, but it is all that we have and it is all that God wants.  Bring yourself and talk to God today.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for another day to praise and worship You.  You show Your lovingkindness to us daily.  Let us never forget to thank You for all that You are.  Shower Your blessings on us and in turn, show us ways to shower blessings on others.  You enrich our lives so much and do so much for us.  Let us never forget what You have done.

In Your name we pray,
