Romans 5:6, “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.”
Without Jesus, we are nothing. Without Jesus, we lack. We are weak. With Jesus, though, we have strength. With Jesus, we are helpless no more.
Prior to the accepting Jesus, we are weak. Not necessarily weak in the physical form. Weak in spiritual form. We are not strong enough to save ourselves. We are not strong enough to stop sinning. We are not strong at all. Our strength must come from another source and that source is Jesus.
Without God, we are or were in an ungodly state. Like stumbling in the darkness looking for the light switch, the ungodly struggle to find God. God is not in the darkness. God is in the Light. In order to come to God, we must come to the Light. The Light is where our strength is located. Not our strength but the strength of the Lord.
Living in the darkness is what so many people want to do. They do it without even realizing it. Lacking God and running around as if He does not matter. That is not strength. That is weakness showing through. We must leave the weak frame of mind and enter the strength of God. Walk into the knowledge of God.
Jesus died. He died for one group of people: the ungodly. All people are born ungodly. We do not set out to seek God right from the start. We all try to live life without God. It is when we admit that we cannot do everything that we give our lives to God. In weakness we turn to the strength of the Savior. We need help and cannot do all things on our own. We need the strength that we do not have.
In the Bible, God chooses the weak to show His strength time and time again. God gave Samson strength and when Samson disobeyed God, he lost his strength. God gave Moses the strength to face the pharaoh in Egypt. God took a man devoted to a life against Him and turned Him into a man of God who started so many churches. In weakness, God shows strength. God does not need us to be strong. He needs us to rely on Him for all that we are. He needs us to be helpless so He can help.
We are weak. We admit that we are. We need You and we need Your strength. We reach out to You and pray that You will lift us up and carry us. We ask for forgiveness for our lack of faith in You. We struggle so much when all we have to do is rely on You. Help us to lean on You more and more each day. You are our God and You are always near.
In Your name we pray,
