Day of the Lord

2 Peter 3:10, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.”

The return of Jesus.  One of, if not, the most anticipated event to occur.  Unlike most events, this one is planned but the date and time is not known.  Only God the Father knows when this event will occur.  Many have speculated and been wrong.  Books have been written to tell when it will occur and they are wrong.  The fact is, when Jesus comes, He will come.  It will be the Day of the Lord when it is.

A thief in the night.  This is how Jesus will come back to Earth the second time.  It will be quick and will catch people off-guard.  For all the planning that people have done, Jesus will still catch people who are not ready for His return.  People who will try to wait until the last moment to be saved.  People who will wait to get their lives in order before His return.  These will be the ones that will be sad when He comes and they are not prepared.

The people who are prepared for Jesus are those that have their souls secure.  They are saved from their sins; they know God on a personal level.  They are not waiting around and wishing they knew when Jesus was returning.  It is pointless to wait around for Jesus to return when a life should be lived as if Jesus was coming this minute.  If preparation is exhibited, Jesus’ arrival will be met with joy and not tears.  Happiness and not sadness.  We should always be ready for Jesus every minute of every day.

Whether we ponder it or not, Jesus is coming.  This old Earth and old Heaven will go away.  In its place will be a new Earth and a new Heaven.  This has been promised by God.  That is the “what.”  The “when” does not matter.  The “who” does, though.  Whoever is saved from their sins and has accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior will be in the new Earth and the new Heaven.  Those who are not will not.  It is this plain and simple.

Let us get prepared for Jesus to come.  Let us stop guessing when He will come and be assured that He will.  The time is not important.  The “who” is all that matters.  Will you be ready?  Will you be prepared to see Jesus?  Will you work every minute of every day to make that you are in good standing with God?  Only through the constant relationship between you and God can you be assured where you will be when you die.  Take care to know that you are ready for Jesus.  Ready to enter into His warm embrace.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You that Your Son is coming.  We don’t know when and we know that does not matter so much as we know He is.  We only ask that You continue to work on us and help us to lean on You more.  Help us to call out to You more.  We cannot be prepared for Your Son if we are not in right standing with You.  I pray that all those that are not ready for You get ready.  They put aside all that procrastination and come to You.  I pray our all the souls of those that do not know You.  I pray that they come to know You today, tonight, this minute.  May Your whole creation speak Your name and sing Your praises forever and ever.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
