God: Rock, Refuge and Strength

Psalms 62:6-7, “He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved.  In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God.”

God is known as many things.  He is the Creator of all.  He is also the rock, defense, salvation, glory, strength, and refuge for all who trust in Him.  He is truly all things to all people, all at the same time.  God is truly an awesome God!

God is our rock.  A rock is hard.  It is strong.  It is what roads are built on.  It is what goes as the foundation for houses.  To say that God is our rock shows that we are built on something that will last.  Unlike the rocks of this world that will diminish and be ground to dust, God is eternal.  He is an eternal rock.  Through the storms and erosion of life, our Rock will not fail us.  He will not fall apart.  He will be there for us always.

God is our defense.  When go to battle against the evil we face, we do not face it alone.  We face it with God.  Without God, our defense is lacking.  It is incapable of holding back the enemy.  God’s defense is like a team that cannot lose.  It is like a war machine that never faces defeat.  With God, we are secure from harm.

God is our salvation.  We are sinful and need God.  We cannot save ourselves.  We cannot correct our sin that we have committed.  God can, though.  God did, in sending His Son to die on the cross to bring salvation to the world.  Not just one race, one gender, or one nation.  God came for all and will save all that truly believe.

God is our glory.  God shines brighter than the sun.  God shines brighter than the stars.  When we have God, we can shine in glory as well.  We can boast because of all that God has done.  The righteousness of God shines and when we choose God, we choose that righteousness.  We choose the glory of God.

God is our strength.  We are weak.  Weak to do anything about our sinful nature.  Weak to resist the enemy.  This is why we need to lean on God and let God be our strength.  Let God use His unlimited power to destroy the enemy and evil.  We do not have to worry or be dismayed because our God is strong enough to help us through all our trials and temptations that we face.

God is our refuge.  He is like a castle that cannot be penetrated.  His walls cannot be scaled.  He is a sanctuary for all that enter in.  We cannot hope to survive outside of the walls of God.  Only when we enter into His kingdom and castle do we have peace.  True comfort from the pain and suffering of the world.  God is like a house that isn’t going anywhere.  He is eternal.

God is so much to us that He is beyond comprehension.  He does things that we need before we know that we need them.  God is more than all of this; He is our Father.  That makes us His children.  We are children of God.  Children of the King.  As children of the King, we enjoy all that is His.  I thank God that is all that we need and we do not lack.  He is truly the God of my life.  Will you make Him yours?

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for all that You are.  I feel that I could never thank You enough.  Help my words always be with a thankful heart to You for all that You are.  We need You to be our strength, our refuge, our power, and our rock.  We are nothing without You.  You are so mighty that we have nothing to fear from outside forces.  Thank You most of all for salvation from sin.  We would be lost without it.  Help us to come to You for forgiveness daily and always enter Your refuge from the storms of life.

In Your name we pray,
