Proverbs 4:7, “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”
Wisdom. This is what we should desire. This should be our goal. When Solomon had the chance to have anything he wanted from God, He chose wisdom. This should show us that wisdom is important. This means that we should “get wise.” Get wisdom from God.
What does it mean to have wisdom? This is more than just memorizing a bunch of books. This is more than just soaking up random knowledge. This is getting an advanced education in God. An intimate knowledge of who God is, what God is, and how God is. This is all about learning about the God that we call Father. This is about learning who God’s Son, Jesus, is. This is about learning about the Holy Spirit. Learning about the Holy Trinity and also learning about God’s Holy Word, the Bible.
This does not leave room for wisdom of the world. God puts to shame the wisdom of the world. This was shown time and time again when the pharisees and Sadducees came up against Jesus. They were considered the “wise men” of the day. Yet, Jesus showed how foolish they were as they tried to trap Jesus with question after question. The wisdom of the world is small compared to the wisdom of God. The wisdom of the world is filthy rags compared to the pristine garment that is God’s wisdom.
Wisdom is helpful in day to day life. Wisdom to know how to act and what to say. Wisdom to hold your tongue when evil wants to come out. Wisdom to restrict your thoughts away from anything that is evil at all. Wisdom involves having a mind like God. This does not mean that we become God. We should strive and yearn to be like God but not be God. Only God can be God and we should not want to replace God (not that we could if we tried).
Wisdom is worth more than all the money in the world. Money will bring happiness for a time but when it runs out, sadness comes back. Wisdom continues as once you have it, it stays with you. Wisdom can actually grow and prosper in the right environment. That environment is where the Bible is read, God is prayed to, and God is honored. Wisdom is from God.
Let us seek wisdom today. Let us pray that we have the wisdom as like Solomon. Wisdom is and can be given by God. Wisdom from any other source other than God is not true Godly wisdom. God is there for us. Let us drink Him in and partake of all that God is so that we may have God’s wisdom within us. Get wise in God!
Let us come to You today with a request. May You shower on us, wisdom from Heaven. Wisdom from You. Wisdom to know what to say, what to do and what to hear. Help us to listen to You for all that we need. We know that You are there for us and will never leave us. Let us trust in You and learn from You so that we may live for You and show Your wisdom and knowledge to others. You are truly a wonderful and amazing God. Let us serve You with all that we are.
In Your name we pray,
