Comfort and Establishment

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17, “Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.”

In life, where is our comfort?  Where is our establishment?  Where is our love?  All of these come from God.  God is our comforter, our establisher, and has so much love to give.  He does not work by proxy to let others do what He does.  He Himself is there for us day in and day out.  In the times that are good and in the times that are bad.  He is our comfort and establishment.

Both God the Father and Jesus His Son work together for all the people of the world.  They are there to give us love.  We are here to give them love.  This is the relationship that God desires.  He wants to commune with His people.  He wants us to want Him and need Him.  We cannot make it without God.  We need to admit that we need the comfort, love and consolation of God.  People can comfort for a while but will ultimately let you down.  They will move on.  They will fail.  People fail.  God does not fail.  He is always there to love and comfort.

God also gives grace.  No one can give grace like God.  We do not deserve what we have.  All we have is because of God.  We would be nothing without God.  Nothing.  We would be lost.  Directionless.  Groping in the darkness for the light.  God is the Light.  He is the Light that we need to see in the darkness that our lives are.

Sin can darken us to a point where we feel hopeless.  We get depressed, anxious, worried, and just plain down.  This is when God can come in and save the day.  He can come in and take our pain, suffering, and hopelessness away and replace it with joy, peace and happiness.  True happiness.  True joy.  True peace.  God can come in but He needs an invite.  He needs to be called.  Even though God is always there, He needs us to call out to Him and open the door of our heart.

Our works and words are meaningless without God.  Everything we say and do is nothing unless God breathes on it and makes it perfect.  We need God to change our works from futile to worth it all.  God can do this if we let Him.  God does not need permission but He is patient and will wait for us.  God is always there, just a prayer away.  Just a conversation away.

Let us come to God for comfort.  Let us come to God for protection.  Let us come to God for healing.  Let us come to God for everything.  God can give us all we need but we have to trust.  We have to ask.  We have to invite God in.  He is there if we only let God be our Father and protector.  The comforter and establisher of our faith.  Faith in Jesus that He is who He says He is and in what He did on the cross.  Our salvation is dependent on Jesus.  Our relationship with God is dependent on Jesus.  Let us choose to be with God forever in Heaven.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your comfort and Your healing.  We are so dependent on You, Lord.  We cannot make it on our own.  You know this and that is why You sent Your Jesus.  You sent Him and He came.  He came, lived and died so that we might live.  Live with You in Heaven forever.  Help us to lean on You for all that we need.  You are so gracious and kind.  Far more than we ever could deserve.  We give You all the credit for all that You are and all that You do, before, now and forever.

In Your name we pray,
