God and the Needs of the People

Exodus 13:22, “He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.”

God knows His people.  He knows us because He made us.  We are His.  He is our Father.  Therefore, because God made us, He knows our needs.  He knows because He cares and pay attention to each and every person.  He is there for us always.

In the passage today, the Israelites had just escaped from the Egyptians and the time in slavery that they endured.  God’s people were now in a desert that would have been very hot and would have been very uncomfortable.  In this, the people would no doubt have complained about the hot sand, the hot weather, lack of water, and other needs that they had.  They would have complained and God was listening and implementing His plan to help.

Part of God’s plan to help was to provide a pillar of cloud and pillar of fire.  The cloud was for the time that was in the day to shade the people from the intense sun that was beating down.  The fire was to provide light to see to travel at night.  The people of God were traveling in the day and night and God knew that they would.  God made sure to provide all that was needed to be able to travel anytime to get them far away from Egypt and to where God wanted them to be.  The promised land.

God has a way of taking a bad situation and making it much better.  God has a way of being there for His people.  The problem comes when we do not ask for what we need.  We tend to complain instead of pray.  We tend to whine instead talking to God.  God wants to bless us and give us what we need.  We limit the blessings we receive when we don’t trust God fully.  He can do all things but we limit a limitless God.

For needs to be met, let us pray to God for our needs.  He knows them but we have to voice them.  By voicing them, we show that we trust God to do what He says He will do.  God will be there for us if we ask.  That is a miracle that God can do all things for all people at all times.  He is our Father.  We should treat Him like our Father and love Him more.  Trust Him more.  Need Him more.  He is our God.  Let us start acting like He is.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for meeting our needs daily.  Help our unbelief that we have in You.  We know that You are all-powerful and yet, we lessen what You can do.  Help us to trust You more.  Help us to love You more and rely on You more.  I pray that we learn to honor and praise You for all that You give us.  We do not deserve all that we receive and yet, You continue to shower blessings on us daily.  Thank You and we praise You.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
