Call to God

Psalms 145:18, “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.”

Calling on God.  It is not just for times of trouble but in good times as well, we should call on God.  He is there for us whenever we need Him.  He is there wherever we are.  We cannot escape from God.  Let us call on the name of the Lord.  Call on Him always.

God is never too far away that we cannot talk to Him.  We do not need to have some big ritual to talk to God.  We do not have to put on some big display to talk to God.  We can call on God in a quiet place and in our times of need or in our times of absolute happiness.  We do not need to have a reason to talk to God.  We can talk to Him like we are having a casual conversation with another person. God is our Father after all and likes to hear from His children.

In the Old Testament, if someone wanted to talk to God, they had to go through a priest.  God was not seemingly as accessible as He is today.  God did not change but times have changed.  Since the death of Jesus, God made Himself more available through something called prayer.  Prayer is the one on one conversation with God.  No intermediary involved.  We do not need to talk through another man to get to God.

Prayer does not need to be formal.  Prayer can be as simple as saying a few words as we walk from one room to another.  Prayer can be a few words before sticking the key in the ignition of your car.  Prayer is talking to God.  Prayer is personal from one person to God.  Prayer can also be public among a small or large group of people.

When we call on God, He is listening.  Does He always answer right away?  No.  In fact, I know that it can seem like you are not being listened to.  I have felt that I was not heard many times.  Yet, I know that I am being heard because God hears.  He knows our thoughts.  He knows us.  When one of His children calls out to Him, He is there for them.  Like a child who stubs their toe and gets hurt, God is like the parent that runs to pick the child up and make sure the child is okay.

Calling on God is essential to every Christian.  There are so many struggles in this world and the weight of the world can push us down.  Only when we call on God do we get peace.  God can take our burden and help us out.  I know that lately I have felt this pressure.  A testing of my patience.  This has required me to call out to God more and more for help.  It is funny that when we get in trouble, we are more likely to call out to God.  When we are doing “fine,”  we tend to forget about God.  It is in all times that we are to call out to God.

Whether you are doing well or not, call out to God.  Do not forget your Father in Heaven.  He is there waiting for you.  Waiting to hear your voice.  He knows you need Him.  He just wants us to admit that we cannot do it on our own and ask Him for help.  God will help if we call out to Him.  Call out to God.  Call out to God now.  Call out to God later.  Just don’t forget to call out to God in all things.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You that we can call out to You.  I appreciate the essence of prayer.  A simple way to talk to You.  You are not some out of touch entity on a mountain top somewhere.  You are near.  We can call out to You and You hear us.  You hear us even when we don’t say one word.  Our thoughts will call out to You.  Sometimes the Holy Spirit even intercedes for us to speak to You.  I am so thankful that You listen when I call.  I ask that all those who are out there learn to trust You more and call out to You more.  You are so close and so accessible.  We do not have to do things alone.  You are there for us, Father.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
