Luke 24:50-53, “And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.”
After the death of Jesus and the resurrection of Jesus, there was the ascension of Jesus. Jesus left the Earth to go back to Heaven. He had fulfilled His purpose on Earth and was ready for the next step in the plan of God.
Jesus led His disciples out to the town of Bethany. This would have been to have them away from the city and in a more intimate environment. Jesus was preparing to leave them so this was time for the final good-byes before He left the Earth. This is similar to the big family hug at the holidays.
Jesus lifted up His hands to Heaven and blessed the disciples. Jesus had a plan for each of His disciples and during His time on Earth, He was preparing each one of them for what lies ahead. This was their moment to shine and show what they learned. Jesus blessed them so that what they did was blessed and of Him.
After the blessing, Jesus was carried up to Heaven. He went away as quickly as He came to Earth. Jesus’s mission was done on Earth and He was needed in Heaven. His next step was to prepare a place for all those who are God’s people who have chosen to follow Him and get their lives to Him.
The disciples worshipped Him as He left them. They were happy to have gotten to know Jesus like they did and greatly awaited seeing Him again. They returned to Jerusalem with joy. Just a little time before, Jesus was dead and they thought life was over. Now Jesus was alive and going to Heaven to lead the way for them to go.
They even went to the temple to praise God. They were not going to keep quiet about the God that they served. They had seen miracle after miracle and were ready for the next phase of their mission as well. They were ready to preach Jesus to all those that needed to hear of Him.
Jesus’ life is one of an immaculate conception, a birth in a seemingly unusual place, a life in ministry to God, a death on the cross, and an ascension to Heaven from where He came. Jesus was in the form of man for a short time and yet showed us so many lessons to learn. Jesus lived a perfect life so that we had an example of how we are to live. We cannot be perfect, but with Jesus, we don’t have to be. With Jesus, we can be saved and be with God in Heaven forever and ever. Amen and Hallelujah!
Thank You for Jesus. His life is perfect. He is perfect. He took away our sins so that we may be with You. We have all that we need and that is all. Lord, we know that You are there for us in our good times and our bad times. You are strong when we are weak. You are full when we are on empty. You are all in all. Thank You for being the God of the universe and creation. We appreciate the gift of salvation and Jesus’ death on the cross.
In Your name we pray,
