Acts 2:1-4, “When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
The Holy Spirit. When Jesus left to world, He went to be with His Father in Heaven. In His place, He sent the Holy Spirit to be with the disciples and those who accepted Him as their Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit is there to help, serve and guide.
On the day of Pentecost, all the disciples were in one place. This was mainly due to the fact that Christians were being persecuted left and right and they needed to hide to avoid death. They were also gathered together to praise and worship God.
When they were gathered together, a sound came from heaven as the sound of wind. This was God as the Holy Spirit making an entrance to show that He was there with the disciples. He also filled the whole house with His presence. This is to show the full power of God and that He is all places at all times.
Then something miraculous happened. Each person in the room spoke in a language that was not known to them. This was to show the power of God as well. Even with people who are not fluent with other languages, they were able to speak in another language. This is called speaking in tongues.
The Holy Spirit gave them the words to say and what language to speak. This was to show that God is powerful. God is able to gift people with all sorts of talents or gifts. He is there for us always. He cares and loves us very much. God the Father created the world, God the Son died and took away the sin of the world, and God the Holy Spirit is with us at all times to help with decisions and to fight the battle against evil on a daily basis. This is the Godhead: three in one.
Thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to be with us. You knew that we needed someone to be with us and having the Holy Spirit with us brings us comfort. We are guided by You continually. You make sure that we are walking on the right path to You. With You, we are lost. With You, we have found the most amazing thing: love. Love for us and we have a love for You. Thank You also for sending Your Son, Jesus, to die in our place. We are sinful and only because of a sinless man are we truly saved. We can be with You after death. That is only possible through the shed blood of Jesus.
In Your name we pray,
