Romans 6:5-6, “For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
Slavery. Not in the traditional sense that people think of. Slavery to Sin. To the evil of the world. To the darkness. Slavery that binds a person from being all that God has made. Slavery that handcuffs the gifts that are given to God’s creation.
Through the death of Jesus, everyone has a connection. Jesus is freedom to slavery. Jesus is the key to unlock the doors that we are all trapped in. We are all created in the image of God. We have a likeness to God and if we have a likeness to God, we have a likeness to Jesus, because Jesus is God.
We all have two people inside us: the Godly side and the ungodly side. When we come to Jesus to be saved from our sins, our old, ungodly sides are hung up right next to where Jesus died. Our old, sinful ways die right along with Jesus and in its place is put the righteousness of God.
For all of this, our old ways go away and new ways come alive. Jesus makes us new people. Jesus frees us from the guilt of sin and penalty as well. The penalty of sin is death. With Jesus, we are given life. With Jesus, we are no longer slaves to sin.
Thank You for the freedom from sin that we receive from the death of Your Son. We know that we can never repay You for this gift and that we do not deserve it. We are sinful people and You are sinless. You are truly our God and we are truly Your people, which is why You chose to save us, Your creation. Sin no longer has the power over us. Death no longer has the power over us. In Your name, we are powerful. In Your name, we are saved. Thank You.
In Your name we pray,
