Proverbs 11:28, “He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage.”
Riches come and riches go. If anyone has ever earned a paycheck, they will know that after the bills get paid, not much if any is left over. People who earn more money only have more bills or more money that goes out for other things. Those riches will not bring happiness. Only more heartache. Despair and heartache.
The righteous, on the other hand, have riches of a different kind. The riches that the righteous have are stored in Heaven, not in a bank or under a mattress. The riches that the righteous have come in the form of salvation. Salvation from the sins that are committed. This gift is worth far more than all the money in the world.
To flourish is to thrive beyond measure. When you have salvation from Jesus, you are able to grow beyond measure. When your faith is put in the money of this world, you can only grow as much as your bank account. After you die, your bank account is emptied and given to another. When you die with the riches of Heaven, your account is not emptied. It is cashed in and a crown and white robe is given. Your riches are not lost when your account is in Heaven.
So where are your riches: Heaven or Earth? This is a question that needs to be asked daily. Make sure that your bank account in Heaven is worth more than your bank account on Earth. At the end of the day, when your head hits the pillow, think about your day, You can make a ton of money in a job but make sure that you are not poor in spirit. The time spent in the Word, spent praying and spent studying will pay off more than any Earthly job.
Help us to assess our “Heavenly” account. Let us know where we are with you, Lord. There is always time where we could be with You more. Help us to learn to use our time wisely and make sure that we are right with You. Our salvation is everything. After we die, we must be assured that we will be with You. If we don’t have You, we have nothing. We love You and need You very much. You are there for us. I pray that those who are not sure where they are going when they die, I pray that they figure out it out sooner than later.
In Your name we pray,
