Hebrews 11:31, “By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace.”
Rahab. She was a double agent before the term “double agent” was even coined. She knew that she was made for something more and God made sure that she was. Without Rahab, the war on Jericho would have gone quite differently.
Rahab was a harlot. A prostitute. Not exactly a follower of God and yet, God had a plan for her. Joshua was in the process of sending 2 men to spy out the land of Jericho after the people of Israel crossed over the Jordan River. The 2 men went to the house of Rahab to stay hidden from the people of Jericho. If caught, these 2 men would most likely be killed for spying on the people of Jericho.
The king of Jericho wanted to know where the men were and Rahab hid them on her roof and gave the king misinformation to lead the soldiers away from the gate. In return for her help, she asked that her and her family be saved when the Israelite army comes in to take over Jericho. She and the people of Jericho had heard what God had done for the people of Israel. They were scared. Rahab was scared and trusted God. The true God, instead of the gods of Jericho.
So the secret was that Rahab was not to tell anyone what the plan was for the people of Israel and the 2 spies were not to allow Rahab and her family to be killed. The only way to know that Rahab was to be left alone was to have her tie a scarlet cord in the window. She trusted God to save her live but ended up getting much more that. She was then mentioned in the book of faith in Hebrews for having the faith to stand up
Rahab did what she had to do and was used by God for a bigger purpose. This is to show that it does not matter what you have done or who you are. We all can used by God to further his kingdom. God is there for all those who trust in Him. All He asks for is faith in Him.
Thank You for teaching us that no matter who we were, we can change. We can be used by You. You are larger than all the sins in the world because You sent Your Son to die to eliminate all the sins of the world. We love You so much. I pray that all those who think they are not good enough for You, I challenge them to trust You to use them for much more than they think they are. Rahab was a prostitute. David was a murderer. Moses had anger issues. Everyone has problems but You are larger than those problems. Thank You for being our everlasting Father in Heaven.
In Your name we pray,
