Faith in God: True Examples of God (A 14-Day Experience) (Day 7)

Hebrews 11:13-16, “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.  For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland.  And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return.  But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country.  Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.”

People who have faith all have one thing in common: a looking forward to something promised or a reward.  Looking forward to land promised.  Looking forward to children promised.  Looking forward to salvation from flood waters.  With faith in God, salvation from death is the something that is looked forward to.  Faith in something to come.

The common theme of all the people mentioned in Hebrews 11 is this: they all lived prior to Jesus, who provided salvation from sin and death and Hell.  They all lived and died before seeing the Christ and the power He had to save.  What they did all have is this: faith.  Faith that God would provide salvation for them based on their profession of faith in Him.  They had faith in someone not yet seen.

These faith warriors embraced the promises from God and even admitted that they were not of this world.  This world is not the destination; this world is the prepping location for the next world.  Those who follow God are constantly working to seek the land that God has for them.  Heaven awaits those who have faith in God.

There were times when they would backslide and would try to return to the evil they were saved from.  Abraham could have returned to the land that he was in but once God told him to go, he went.  He did not look back.  He did not return because he had faith in God and trusted that God had his best interests in mind.

God is proud of those who are calling Him ‘their God.”  They made God happy when they used His name properly and spread His love and gift to everyone they met.  If they would have been ashamed to talk about God, He would not be proud of them.  God is the Father of all and they were all proud of the Father in Heaven.  He did, after all, create everything and sent His son to die for the sins of the world.

God is in Heaven.  Jesus died and went to Heaven to prepare a place for all with God.  We should be happy to see God in Heaven and eagerly anticipate all the God has in store for us.  This requires faith that God is who He says He is and that He is looking out for us.  God wants what is best and God will give us the best if we only have faith in Him.

We need to be more like the faith warriors of Hebrews 11.  They had faith and trust.  We need to have that faith in order to make God proud.  We need that faith in order to move forward.  We need that faith all the time.  We are not of this world.  It is time to start living like we are preparing for the next world.  A perfect world prepared by God for us.  Let us get ready for Jesus’ arrival to come and take us away to be with God the Father.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for all that You are.  You are such an awesome God.  You made us so wonderfully unique and capable of so much.  We need faith in You to get through this life.  Strengthen our faith daily.  Help us in the areas that we need You to help us.  I pray that those struggling are provided relief.  I pray that those who are down be lifted up.  All need You, Lord.  I pray and petition You, Lord, to be there for all who don’t know You.  I pray that they come to a great knowledge and love of You.  You are the peace that passes all understanding.  We need You always.

In Your name we pray,
