Hebrews 11:5-6, “By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, ‘and was not found, because God had taken him’; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
Enoch is one of the special cases in the Bible. Whereas people’s lives and deaths are recorded in the Bible, there is no recorded death of Enoch. There is little known about Enoch of the Bible but one thing is true: he had faith.
In Genesis 5 it is recorded that Enoch lived 65 years and then had Methuselah (the oldest recorded man in history). Then something amazing is written after that. It states that he walked with God for 300 years until he was 365 years old. 300 years. This is incredible that Enoch was able to follow God for all that time.
After 365 years of living, Enoch went from being alive on Earth to being carried up to Heaven. He went from walking with God to being with God. Enoch avoided death. He avoided the placement in a tomb and simply went from being to not. Due to the life of Enoch, God spared Enoch the pains of death.
Enoch had a testimony that pleased God. There is not much detail to suggest how Enoch lived, other than he lived and pleased God. He had faith in God, whom he had no seen. He had a faith that was larger than himself.
To please God, we must have faith in God. Without faith in God, God is not pleased. God has a plan. We must have faith that God is in control and that God is who He says He is. Without faith, there is no trust. If we don’t trust God, how can have a relationship with Him? Walking with God leads to trust which leads to faith. This is what Enoch did.
God is the gift giver to those who believe in Him. The gift is salvation. Those who seek God receive the gift of salvation. Let us genuinely seek God to receive salvation and eternal life with God forever.
Thank You for the faith lesson in Enoch. This lesson to walk with You is so applicable to us. I pray that we learn to be like Enoch who walked with You for all those years. We need Your gift of salvation. We want to please You. I pray that all those who are not following You come to know You. For those that are following You, I pray that the bonds with God grow stronger and stronger. We need you every hour and for that, we place our faith wholly in You.
In Your name we pray,
