1 Corinthians 1:18-19, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.  For it is written: ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.'”

The cross of Christ.  The symbol of Christianity.  This symbol will either incite happiness or incite hate.  There is no in-between.  There is no gray area.  Black or white.  The message behind the cross is fundamental to the faith of all those who stand with Jesus.  It is a matter of faith.  Faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Faith in something bigger than ourselves.

Reading in the Bible about Jesus’ death is hard to read.  I will be the first to admit this.  To imagine the pain and suffering that He endured is beyond measure.  To imagine the weight of all the sin of all the world on Him is not something that we can fully fathom.  The story of Jesus is well documented in the Gospels.  Even the story of the cross is well documented as well.

Most people will not deny that Jesus lived.  Most people will admit that Jesus was a teacher of men.  Most will even admit that He died and that He died on a cross.  Where people get lost is when the story continues after His death.  Jesus did not just live and then die on a cross.  He rose from the dead.  He was fully dead and then fully alive again.  This is where people get lost.  This is where people get the “deer in the headlights” look.

People cannot seem to reason the fact that Jesus came back to life.  In a world where people die and that is it, it seems impossible that Jesus could die and then live again.  Jesus is not a normal man though.  He was man but He is God as well.  With God, the impossible becomes possible.  With God, the unlikely is beyond likely.  It is more than plausible.  It is reality.

The wisdom of man would state that this could not happen.  Once a man is dead, he is dead.  No heartbeat means death.  No more life.  No more second chances.  Yet, Jesus did just that.  He showed this by the miracles that He performed to raise other people from the dead.  If He could raise other people from the dead, He could raise Himself.  This is not a fairy tale.  This is truth.

There are news stories that you can read about people who “die” only to come back to life by some medical miracle.  This is not just a medical miracle.  This is God.  This is God saying that He is not done with that person yet.  Just like God would not permit Jesus to stay in the ground.  The purpose of Jesus’ death was to remove sin from the world.  The purpose of Jesus’ resurrection is to show the power God has over death.  Death cannot contain God.  Sin is not more powerful than God.  They both bow to the mighty God, Creator of all.

God exists beyond the wisdom and understanding of man.  Our wisdom and understanding is far less than God.  When it comes to the message that God wants us to hear, it is best to lay aside conventional wisdom and take up faith.  Faith in who God says He is and faith in what God does.  Faith far outweighs anything that can be reasoned.  Faith is all that is needed.  The message of the cross is truth, ready to be believed by whoever is willing.

Are you willing to have faith?  Are you willing to accept the message of the cross?  It is in your best interest to do so.  Your very soul depends on the faith that is required.  Don’t wait for faith.

If you have any questions about how to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, please reach out to me and I will pray with you and answer questions for you.

Heavenly Father,

I pray for all those who do not have faith in You.  I pray that they come to a knowledge and faith in You and understand the message of the cross.  We owe our lives to You, Lord.  Our souls depend on You.  You are our eternal life.  You are all we need.  Jesus, Your Son, lived and died for us.  We are grateful and thankful for our salvation that is given to us.  You are the God of all.  Let us let You in fully.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
