Proverbs 13:2, “A man shall eat well by the fruit of his mouth, But the soul of the unfaithful feeds on violence.”
The fruit of the mouth can be a dangerous thing. The mouth has the ability to build up or tear down. It has the ability to make people happy or send people into deep sadness. The mouth is a powerful tool that needs to be controlled. By your mouth, your actions will be found out and who you are is truly revealed.
What a man puts in his mouth is important. Our bodies are a temple and a creation of the Creator. We need to do well to take care our what we put into our bodies and what comes out of them. We put good food in and we will have a healthy body that is ready to accomplish much. If you put in junk food, your body will be unhealthy and sluggish.
The same goes for what we see and read. If we spend time reading the Bible and following God, our words and actions will show that knowledge that we are attaining. If we leave our Bibles on the nightstand to gain dust and do not follow God or talk to Him, our words and actions will show that we are lacking a relationship with God.
I know from personal experience that the more that I pull away from God, the worse my life is. I become more angry, more our of control and less kind to those around me. I find that when I am talking to God, reading my Bible and focusing on my walk, my life is quite different. We need to keep in mind that we can eat well if we are eating the right things. We must “eat” the Words of God to “digest” them and know what to do and how to act. In following God, we will do what is well.
Violence follows the unfaithful. It is hard to have peace when we resist God. Peace comes to the righteous. To the ones that follow God and accept Him in, peace is truly found. When someone commits an evil act, it is more likely that this will be repeated until it is dealt with. Every time that act is committed, it becomes easier and easier to do. For example, compulsive lying. Once a lie is told, it is easier to compound lies with lies. Lies do not seem harmful but can lead to other sorts of evil and violence.
Are you concerned about your soul? Your soul can be well or can be “sick.” Make sure to feed your soul a steady diet of the Word of God. That will ensure that your soul stay healthy and your words stay pure. Shun evil and what is evil that can pass over your tongue and escape your mouth. Do not say it or even think it. This is harder that it is typed but with God, all things are possible. God is there for us. Let us talk to Him.
Guide our hearts, mouths and minds to You. Let us not stray from You and Your will. We know that we are not perfect and ask for Your assistance in guiding our thoughts and words. I pray that we listen to You and Your words. I pray that we also follow your laws as You are our God and we are Your people. We love You for all that Your are and all that You do for us.
In Your name we pray,
