Matthew 5:1-12, “And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.'”
Blessed are the pure in heart. Pure means not mixed or adulterated with any other substance or material. When it comes to qualities of the heart, pure would mean that nothing is in it except for good, good that comes from God. When sin comes into the heart, it begins to push out God and makes the heart impure. True purity can only occur when everything but God is removed.
If you allow too much sin to come in to your heart, God cannot be there. This makes a completely impure or hardened heart. There is a cure from an impure heart. Jesus is the cure. He died for our sins and can take the sin out of the hearts of those that believe in Him. As long as we keep God in our heart and ask for forgiveness from sin, we will have a pure heart. We cannot keep a pure heart on our own. Only with God can we stay pure.
For they shall see God. This occurs when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. When accepting Jesus, we will see God in the next life. This is how salvation works. To see God, we must follow Jesus. Jesus is the way to God. Jesus is the only way to God.
Do you want to be pure? Do you want to see God? The answer to both questions should be yes. By Jesus, we can be pure. If we stay pure, we will see God. It is simple and yet hard at the same time. With God, we can always return to Him and be pure because of the blood of Jesus that takes away the sin of the world.
Thank You for being pure. Thank You also for help with being pure ourselves. We know that we cannot be sinless without Your Son, Jesus. He came to take away the sin of the world. He came to make us sinless and perfect again. I pray that we all invite You in so that we make ourselves pure. You are so good to us. Help us to be good like you are good.
In Your name we pray,
