Matthew 5:1-12, “And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.'”
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. Righteousness, by definition, is the quality of being morally right or justifiable. By definition through the Bible, only God is truly righteous. Those people who try to be righteous like God are hungry and thristing for God. We should want to be more like God. We should want to eat up what God serves and drink up what God offers. His Word is there to satisfy our hunger and thirst. This is not physical food or water. Jesus is the bread of life (John 6:35) and the living well of water of eternal life (John 4:14).
For they shall be filled. Filled. Not lacking. Because Jesus is the bread and the water, we can be filled completely if we accept Him. Physical food will fill us for a time but end up leaving us hungry. Physical water will satisfy for a short time but leave us thirsty again and again. Only spiritual food and water will satisfy. Blessed are those that accept the food and water from Christ. This means that we go to Heaven to be with God. This means eternal life.
Do you hunger? Do you thirst? Do you want to be filled? Come to Jesus and be filled. Be blessed. Hunger no more. Thirst no more. Be filled. If you have a need, God will fill it. If you have questions, God will answer them. Just ask. All we have to do is ask. All we have to do is call on the name of the Lord and He will be there. We need to go forth and hunger/thirst no more. All of this is possible with God.
Thank You. We need food and You give it to us. We need water and You give it to us. We have needs and You fill them. More importantly, we have spiritual needs. Once again, You fill these needs. All that we are is because of You. All that we need we get from You. you are the Great Provider. You transcend all of our knowledge that we possess. We praise You and thank You for all that You are. You are our God and we are Your people. We long to be with you in Heaven forever.
In Your blessed name we pray,
