Proverbs 18:1, “A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment.”

Isolation.  People need people whether they would like to admit it or not.  There are times that a person does need to be alone but extended times of being alone will cause problems to occur.  An isolationist’s mind will begin to trust people less and less the longer they are alone.

I used to be one that liked to be alone.  I would lock myself away from the world and not listen to anything.  I thought I always knew best.  It took a long time to tear down the walls and trust that other people have advice and wisdom for me.  It took a while to know that you need people.  Even when you try to avoid people, there is one you cannot avoid: God.

People who isolate themselves away will tend to listen to only themselves and may even try to avoid God.  While listening to yourself can be good, sometimes it is best to listen to the wisdom of others.  Other people have experienced life as well and may have a different way of accomplishing a goal.  Wisdom is knowing that you can listen to others for advice.  God’s advice is the best and is needed in order to grow.

Do you want to listen to others or only listen to yourself?  Know that God is able to give perfect advice and wisdom.  Know that others, though not perfect, can also give advice that can be helpful.  Trust that others can be helpful to you.  Trust that God is perfect and able to get you through the times that are difficult.  God is there for you always.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the wisdom of others.  We, as Christians, need to be accepting of the fact that the way that we think may be contrary to another person.  We also need to be accepting that our way is not always right.  God, You put people into our lives at certain times to help and advise us on how we are to act and decide.  Thank You for all that You do for us.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
