Deuteronomy 6:4-9, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!  You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.  ‘And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.'”

Children need to be taught.  Parents need to teach.  This is how God intends for the relationship between parent and child to be.  Children are learn from those who have lived before them.  Children that do not learn from their parents are doomed to repeat those same problems.

When my wife and I are talking to our children, we love to use examples.  Our examples come from the Bible when possible.  The love that we show come from this passage.  We show that all must love God with heart, soul, and mind.  These are words we want our children to pass on to their children.

In this passage, God is telling the Israelites to pass on all that they have learned about God on to their children.  The main point to pass along is this: Love the Lord Your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.  These words were meant to be kept on their hearts so that they were remembered always.

If you have children, pass these words on.  If you do not yet have children, pass this message on to children who you see.  The next generation needs to know that God deserves our love from our hearts, souls, and minds.  All that we have is His.  We should give all that we are to Him always.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the message received from this passage.  We know as parents that we are to instruct our children about You.  We know that there is no greater task to perform that to show Your love to our children and others.  I pray that those who are parents teach this to their children.  I pray that the next generation and all future generations continue to learn about You and Your love.  You are love, God.  Thank You for being love.

In Your loving name we pray,

Amen
