Proverbs 10:17, “He who keeps instruction is in the way of life, But he who refuses correction goes astray.”
Instruction and Correction. Two things that are not easily accepted, but in time, very needed. Sometimes it is tough to admit that you need help or that you did not do something correctly. Every once in a while, someone has to come by and help you out. You can’t always do everything alone. You need help. Help from a God and Savior.
My children, as they get older, are learning to do more and more things around the house. They are really good at most things but there are so many things that they do not do well. Tying shoes, for instance, is difficult. They get angry when it comes untied quickly. When I showed them how to do it correctly, they got better and better until they did it well. Now they are proud to have been corrected by me to show them how to do it.
People love to be right all the time, Being corrected is not always pleasant. Being corrected is Godly, though. Without correction, there is no following God. Without correction, you will stray off the path. he instructions are there to be followed. If the instructions are not followed, correction is required. God is needed to help anyone who is not perfect (which is everyone).
If you go to a store and buy a bookshelf, you will get a set of instructions. Those instructions will tell you how to make the bookshelf. If you don’t follow them, the bookshelf will not be built properly. It will need to be corrected. This help could come from someone who built the shelf before or someone who knows how to build others things. Either way, help is needed.
God is there to correct us in our lives. Jesus came to this Earth with a set of instructions. Be born of a virgin, live a perfect life, die on the cross, be resurrected, and then ascend to Heaven. He did not deviate from this so He did not need correction. Jesus came before us so that He could correct us if we fall away from Him. He is the WAY. Follow Jesus is the instruction. Anything less requires correction.
Are you going to be willing to allow God to correct you? Or are you going to get angry and question why God is getting on you? Correction is good. Correction is right. Correction is from God and honors God. Allow the instructions to come and correction in times of need.
Thank You for Your instructions and also Your corrections. We need to learn how to take the good with the bad. I pray that we all will be open to listen to Your words and be open to what You are saying to us. We, as people, can be stubborn and belligerent. Please break down these walls that we put up so that we may honor and please You, Lord. You are the WAY. You are LIFE. You are TRUTH. Let us listen to You always.
In Your name we pray,
