Salt of the Earth

Mark 9:49-50, “For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt.  Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”

Salt.   A great seasoning for food and before refrigeration, salt was used to cure meat to preserve it.  Salt has so many uses but salt without flavor is useless.  Salt can also be used to melt snow off a roadway, sidewalk or driveway.  The many uses of salt.

Bad salt is like a person who is not following God.  When a person stops following God completely, the flavor leaves that person.  The effectiveness of their ministry becomes weaker.  Their life that is seen by others as fake and dishonoring to God.

Good salt is like a person who is following God.  When a person follows God, their flavor increases as they grow closer to God.  The effectiveness of their ministry becomes stronger.  Their life is seen by others as true and honoring to God.

The seasoning by fire happens in each person’s life.  Every person goes through trials and temptations in this world.  Those events are either used for good or bad.  They can either build you up or tear you down.

Salt that loses its seasoning cannot be seasoned again.  It is useless.  It cannot be used for anything.

Be salt.  Don’t lose your flavor.  Let your trials make you better.  Let Jesus make you better.

Heavenly Father,

Thank  You for all that You do for us, Lord.  We are nothing without You.  I pray that You will continue to guide us through our trials and temptations.  You are our God and we are Your people.  Help us to be more like you in our lives daily.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
