Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.  But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.  Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.  But how can one keep warm alone?  Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.  A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

A cord of three strands is a braid.  Many objects can be braided to include yarn, rope, hair, and wire.  When something is braided, it stands to last longer than as a single unit.  With two, there is still more strength than one.  Three is ideal.  This is why three is key.

When two friends or a married couple are together, they can help each other out.  They can assist each other through good times and bad times.  When one is down, the other can pick them up.  When one is sad, the other can be happy and make both happy.  When those two insert a third, the outcome is completely different, especially when that third is God.  When two people are married, God enters that marriage as a third part.  God is the glue that can keep the marriage together.  God is the glue that can keep a friendship together.  When two people and God are together, who can stand against them?

All alone, there is no one to talk to.  There is no one to pick you up.  No one to keep you warm.  All alone is not how God created us.  God created us as social beings.  God created man and woman to come together to be friends and mates.

When God is included in marriages and friendships, the strength of that marriage and friendship is infinitely stronger.  God is all-powerful and God brings a lot to both relationships.  That is why in most marriage ceremonies God is mentioned.  God is invited in to bless a marriage and make it strong.

Let God in.  Let God be the third strand in your marriage or friendship braid.  Let God be the adhesive that holds us together.  God wants to be let in if you will let Him.  3 is greater than 2 which is greater than 1.  Strive for 3!

Heavenly Father,

Let us let You in!  I pray that You will bless us and keep us safe.  You are all that we need.  I pray that You come into our friendships and marriages and strengthen us.  I pray that You use us to be good friends to everyone.  The world needs You and needs the strength that You can add.  With You, we can be stronger than any bond formed by man.  With You, we can be all things to all people.  Thank You God for being there always.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
