Luke 12:22-28, “Then He said to His disciples, ‘Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?'”
Worry. Too much of it in the world. Worry about what is going to happen tomorrow. Worry about what your image looks like. Worry…worry…worry.
Pay attention to the media long enough and you will find the message of worry. People that buy products to make them look younger because they worry that they are looking older. People who are afraid to stand with others due to an image issue. People hire other people to tell their fortune and tell them their future. There is so much worry about this and that. Yet, we serve a God that tells us not to worry. Why?
The reason we don’t have to worry is simple: God. God is the answer. God is the answer to all problems, especially worry. God takes care of all His creation, especially people. The needs that we have are met. I would like to say that I have mastered worry. I cannot. I worry. I am a husband and father so it is natural for me to worry. I worry about my children and their future lives. I worry about my wife and how she is doing. I worry.
The question is why. The lesson is this. Worry diminishes God. People love to limit what God can do. Make God more manageable. The solution: Don’t limit God. God can do all. God can eliminate your worry. Worry gains nothing; God will gain you everything. Gain for this life and more importantly, the next life. God can give eternal life to anyone. We have to choose it. We have to choose to eliminate worry and trust God fully.
Are you ready to let go of worry and hold on to trust? This is a challenge for me as much as it is for you. Let go of the worry. Give God all the power you can for your life. God is all-powerful, whether you try to fence Him in or not. God is waiting for you to give Him all your worries. Give them to God today.
Thank You for the gift of being able to trust You fully. We allow worry to dictate our lives, but you want our worries. You want to take them and give us peace instead. We need Your peace. We need Your calm. I pray over this world for a peace that only You can give. Eliminate the worries in our hearts today, Lord. You are our God and we are Your people. We bow down and worship You and give You all of us today. Thank You for the sending of Your son, Jesus, to die on the cross to eliminate our worry for our souls.
In Your wonderful name we pray,
