Matthew 12:33-37, “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Good tree = Good fruit. Bad tree = bad fruit.
People are known by their words and their actions. People are capable of doing good things and also capable of doing evil things. The things that you say and do leave a lasting impression on all who hear and see. These things can be forgotten by man but God never forgets what is said or done. It is all recorded by God.
Before doing or saying anything, I like to think, “Will this be honoring or pleasing to God?” If I have a doubt, I don’t do or say it. This is not to say that I am perfect or do this everytime. This is a good framework to work from. What we say or do should make God proud. We should never set out to disappoint God.
This relationship between God and people is similar to a parent and child. As a child, we try to make our parents proud and do what our parents say. As a parent, we expect our children to listen and behave. The dynamic remains the same for God and us. We should want to make God proud. We should want to listen to God. God expects us to read His book, listen to Him, and behave. We behave by showing love to all that we come in contact with.
The fate of our souls rests in what we say and do in this world. If we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we can know that we will have eternal life with Him. If we do not, we will know eternal separation from our Creator. Our life’s work is all recorded by God and examined during judgment. A life lived for Him or against Him.
So my question to you is this: “Are you producing good fruit or bad fruit?” “Are you living a life for God or a life that is contrary to God?” “Are you saved by Jesus or not?” If you are bad fruit, living a life contrary to God, or not saved by Jesus, there is still time. There is time to come to God on your knees and ask for forgiveness. There is time to change your life from bad to good. There is time to live a life that is honoring God. God will welcome anyone to Him that calls on His name.
I pray that those who are not following You come to You and receive Your salvation. We live in a world that is hurting. We live in a world that needs You, Lord.
