1 Corinthians 12:1-11, “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”
Discerning of spirits. Showing good judgment between good and bad spirits. This world is filled with good and bad and the ability to tell the difference is crucial to the life of the Christian.
So much of the time, people can seem to be good and doing good things but have a bad spirit within them. Spirit discernment helps to identify that bad spirit and bring it out in the open. Even within churches, there can be bad spirits that attempt to subvert the word of God.
Satan and his demons want to constantly subvert God. They want to cast doubt, fear, lies, and other evil throughout all the world. This is also evident in the church. False teachers are always trying to spread a message that is not in line with what the Bible says. With this gift, one can see the difference between truth and lies.
Seek truth. Read the Bible. This is only way to know if what you are being taught is of God or not. If it is of God, it will be located in the pages of the Word. Whenever I hear a sermon or message, I immediately go to the Bible to back it up. It is part of being a diligent Christian. Don’t take someone’s word for granted. It must align with God’s will or it is just noise.
Eliminate the noise. Listen to God. If you listen to God and do as He says, you will not be wrong. God’s plan is the only true plan. Let us stick to that plan.
I pray that You give each and every one of us the wisdom to know what is truth and what is a lie. In a world of corruption and deceit, help us to determine what is what. Your truth is found in the Bible. We know that You are truth. We know that anything other than truth is a lie and does not originate from you. Help us to spread Your truth. There are lots of false teachers in this world. Help us to look past these and find only teachers who are speaking Your word.
In Your truthful name we pray,
