1 Corinthians 12:1-11, “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”
Prophecy. A lot of people think of prophecy as the prediction of what is going to happen in the future. No man can predict what will happen in the future. No man knows what is ahead. Man needs God to shine a light on what is to come.
Prophecy that occurred in the Bible is recorded quite often. Prophets like Isaiah, Elijah, and Daniel foretold events that would happen in the future. They were not guessing that these events would happen. They knew that they would happen because God told them. He shares with certain people about what is to come.
To God, all events are known. God is the beginning of time, the middle of time, and the end of time. From the time of creation to the end times, God was, is, and will be there. Only mankind and the rest of creation is kept out of the loop. God uses people like Isaiah, Elijah, and Daniel to show what God already knows.
Anyone who says that they know the future is a liar. No if’s, and’s or but’s about it. There is no way to tell what God has in store for us. Yet, people continue to try to predict the future and figure out what God already knows. This only proves to be futile. No point.
Let’s try something though. What if you knew the future? What if you knew what would happen for the rest of your life? Knew when you would die? Knew when you would do anything? Would you truly be happy? As for me, I would not. I would be trapped by fear knowing when I was exiting the world. I would be begging God for more time instead of living in the time that I had.
This is why God does not reveal the future to us. Our finite minds cannot handle all this information. We are far better off knowing what we know. The present. The burden of knowing the future would be immense. This is why not everyone is gifted with prophecy. To anyone with this gift, it is a burden.
Thank You for Your will. You hold the future in Your hands and that is all we need to know. You will guide our paths and lead us where we should go. We rely only on You for our every need. Guide our present and our future. We lay down our lives to You.
In Your wise and gracious name we pray,
