Spiritual Gifts: Healings

1 Corinthians 12:1-11, “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led.  Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.  There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.  There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord.  And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.  But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.  But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”

Healings.  When someone thinks of healings, they think of Christ and all the stories of the Bible where Jesus healed the sick and the lame.  Jesus also allowed others to heal people in His name.  The gift of healing is not as widely used today but that does not mean it does not exist.

Healing can come in several forms.  There is physical healing where someone is healed of an ailment.  There is a mental healing where someone needs their mind healed.  There is also a healing of the soul.  The soul that is broken needs healing.  Everyone has sin and everyone is born into the world with the need of a Savior.

Healing may not be the same today but I believe that the gift of healing is still ever present in the world.  Doctors and nurses are blessed with the gift of healing.  They use the knowledge that God blessed them with to prescribe medicine and care for the people who need a doctor.  Doctors can heal the body from disease and other ailments.

Jesus is the Great Physician who can heal body and soul.  Jesus, in His time on Earth, healed many sick people with a varied amount of medical problems.  The gift of healing that Jesus gave to the disciples, apostles, and others were also to heal body and soul through the name of Jesus.  Since the departure of Jesus from this Earth, this gift has become a gift that people possess to heal the body and soul through Jesus, who now resides in Heaven.

Do you have the gift of healing?  Even without the gift, people can be there to listen to others and love them.  Sometimes just a kind word can be all the healing someone needs.  Be kind today and every day.  Healing comes in many forms.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the gift of healing.  Our bodies fail and need healing.  Our souls need healing too.  We are open and empty without You, Lord.  We need You to fill the void that is in our hearts and souls.  You are our Lord and Savior, who took away sin and death.  Your plans are way bigger than our plans.  We submit to You and Your will.  You alone are all we need.  Please heal us as only You know how.  You made us.  You know how to fix us.  Please send help today for those who need You most.  Please strengthen those who are spreading Your Word in foreign countries and facing oppression.  You are God of all.  Lord of Lords and Kings forever and always.

In Your healing name we pray,

Amen
